I can't quite make up my mind on this one. Should be clear on this end since I strongly tend to oppose the death penalty. But there seems to be a threshold where I may find myself crossing that line. On this one and his sick friends, I might just be willing to flip the switch myself...

Bread and water is only reserved for US military detainment (our people not theirs). Too cruel for civilians.

March 6, 2006 — On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, while the world watched the horror of jetliners smashing into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, Zacarias Moussaoui sat in a jail cell — possibly withholding information that could have averted the attacks.

Moussaoui — the only person charged in the United States for having direct knowledge of the Sept. 11 attacks — goes before a jury today in a federal courtroom in Alexandria, Va., to determine whether he knowingly lied or covered up knowledge of the attacks. If he is found guilty, the jury will then decide if he should be executed or face life in prison

Moussaoui was arrested in August 2001 and held on immigration violations. A self-professed al Qaeda member, Moussaoui pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy in April 2005, for knowing about al Qaeda's Sept. 11 plans and agreeing to participate in the attacks.

The government's prosecution will focus on whether the attacks could have been prevented had Moussaoui told FBI agents about al Qaeda's plans.

Previously, Moussaoui has said he was not part of the 9/11 plot but that he was tasked to take part in a second wave of attacks destined to hit the White House. At his plea hearing in April 2005, Moussaoui said, "I was being trained on the 747-400 to eventually use this plane … to strike the White House, but this conspiracy was different conspiracy than 9/11."

But unfortunately, that's not possible in the current Justice system... so it comes down to two choices...

a. kill him

b. let him live out the rest of his life with medical care, religion, mail, phone calls, cable tv, 3 hot meals a day, canteen to purchase goodies from, visits, recreation both indoors and out doors, relative safety compared to his life of being a terrorist...

Dreaming up great punishments for him instead of the death penalty is all well and good... except none of them will happen. If he doesn't get the death penalty, the best we can hope for is some good ole fashioned Jail House justice to be done. He might jump to the head of the line, in front of all the child molesters, for some of that.

You want to play semantics now? I offer a different definition of murder. Killing someone on purpose. Much simpler.

Not that Im coming down on either side but isn't murder 'malice aforethought'.

That would exclude capital punishment as its part of a justice system and technically without malice (justice being blind and all that)
