Doesnt really matter if ur married to a USA citizen..You will be filing anyways....And as I mentioned above....something happens--death, divorce, you head back to Canada, one can renounce ur USA citizenship.

It takes a few steps to STOP being Canadian. Just look at Ted Cruz!

I will be applying for dual as soon as we are allowed. Kids included. I feel like I'm giving them a great gift by going through all of this on behalf of us!

I want to be able to vote.

I want to be able to apply for any job I want even though I own my own business and probably never will apply for another job in my life but I want to be able to if I want to!

I want to not have to jump through any more immigration hoops or worry about when something other than a passport expires.

But I will always be a Canadian and so will my kids.

the only thing stopping me from thinking of naturalization is the test. I have no idea what it is about. Is it difficult? I apologize for my ignorance. Its just that I never entertained the thought of naturalization until I read all of the pros and cons you guys posted. Up until this minute I was so sure that I was going the dual citizenship route

Head on over to the citizenship forum - they have 100 possible questions they can ask (you can easily study using practice tests and USCIS provides you with a booklet), of which they will randomly select 10. You have to get 6/10 correct. Durign the interview if you correctly answer teh first 6 - they stop there.

You appear to have a fine grasp of english so the other 2 pieces...writing a sentence in english which they dictate and reading a sentence in english (obviously the interview conducted in english as well) shouldn't be a problem.

I'll be honest, I don't want to vote in this country. Until they clean up their political act (which I doubt will ever happen in my lifetime) I don't care to. Choices are far too limited IMHO.

I'm the 3rd generation in my family to be here in the USA via immigration. My grandparents did, my parents (as well of all of my mother's brothers and sister) did and now I'm here. None of my family (some have been here 30+ years) ever became citizens for personal reasons. My parents will not because they feel as pastors that taking the oath and maintaining their Canadian citizenship would be unethical. I respect that decision it's entirely up to them.

My older sister in Canada has brain cancer. In the early stages my mom would often travel back and forth from Florida to Winnipeg unsure how long she'd be there. One critical time at POE she fumbled with her words saying that se was u sure just how long she'd be there for and mentioning her green card. The officer just laughed and said "ma'am, you're a Canadian citizen, you can stay as long as you like." And let her pass.

Not even at the county level? I feel I can affect things less at a Federal level, but I really like voting about local issues which can be near and dear to me since they can affect my daily life at the county level.

Not sure, maybe in a few years I'll feel differently. Currently I dont think it wouod help or make a difference. I also despise the news so I would also have to make more effort to learn the issues. I never found in Canada that voting ever helped in the direction I wanted, but I still voted if I knew what was going on.
