Toothpaste threatens Olympics while poisoned dogs, bad hotel rooms taint Games

The US Department of Homeland Security sent an advisory to airlines about how explosive components could be smuggled onto flights inside toothpaste tubes, the Daily News confirmed. Meanwhile, Olympics organizers came under criticism for their policy of poisoning dogs in Sochi as tales of poor accommodations continued.

The latest terror threat to the Sochi Olympic Games: toothpaste tubes packed with bomb-making materials.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent an advisory to airlines about the possibility of potential explosive components smuggled onto flights inside the thin tubes, the Daily News confirmed Wednesday.

The grim warning comes as athletes and guests arriving in Sochi for the Games, which have already cost Russia $51 billion, griped about ramshackle hotels not being ready — and rooms that are available often lack essentials like doorknobs, light bulbs, TVs, lamps and chairs.

Some visitors said the rooms had no water and that when the faucets did work, they spewed an obnoxious looking yellow liquid.

On Wednesday, Olympics organizers came under criticism for their policy of poisoning dogs in the city. A Scottish member of Parliament said the killing “stains the snow of Sochi with blood.”

But a spokesman for the International Olympic Committee said only sick strays are being killed and others are being “taken into custody” so they can’t disrupt the Games.

Meanwhile, the accommodations are so bad that a litany of complaints have been launched on Twitter under the hashtag #sochiproblems.

CNN booked 11 rooms for staffers six months ago, only to find out just one was ready when crews arrived. Another hotel was without any water due to a main break.

Some manholes along city walkways remained uncovered and without warnings of the danger.

If Sochi doesn't have snow (and rarely goes below freezing), then how far do they have to go for it?

Official: Plane lands in Turkey after bomb threat, passenger wants to land in Sochi

A Pegasus Airlines plane landed at an Istanbul airport Friday after a passenger "said that there was a bomb on board" and wanted the plane to land in Sochi, Russia, the site of the Winter Olympics, said officials with Turkey's Transportation Ministry.

"While the plane was in the air, one of the passengers said that there was a bomb on board and asked the plane to not land in Sabiha Gokcen (in Turkey) but rather to land in Sochi," Transportation Ministry official Habip Soluk said Friday on CNNTurk.

The passenger said the bomb was in the baggage hold, a Transportation Ministry official said.

Gotta love the back tracking of the Russian official who told the media Social water problems were from the known cause of tourists leaving the water running for hours in their showers. How Russian officials knew that you ask?

Security cameras located inside hotel bathrooms!

Thanks Obama!

Doesn't look like much of anything is going right in Sochi. At the opening ceremonies, one of the rings didn't light up properly.
