Do I need tax info?

Hi all,

I am looking ahead to the step where I have to prove my ability to financially support my fiancee (I am the petitioner) even though we are pre-NOA2 at this point. I started my new job in August of 2013, and have a contract, make above the necessary amount, but obviously do not have tax returns at this point which reflect that. Would a W-2, letter from my employer, copy of my contract, etc. suffice, or must I have tax information even if it doesn't reflect that which I need it to?

Thank you,

Kay

Most consulates require the tax transcripts/returns from previous years as it helps to establish stable, consistent income. Whether it is needed will depend on the requirements of your consulate. It is ok if your past tax returns do not reflect your present job as current income generally bears more weight. You will be fine with a W2, letter from your current employer, in addition to the tax documentation.

If you don't have any tax information to provide because you were legally exempt from filing in previous years, then provide a written statement explaining why you were exempt (e.g. you made below the tax filing threshold).

Flying to Seattle on 6 May 2014!
