I have been on an L1-B and then an E3 for the last 10 years so have been locked to just the one job/employer for that period and haven't been able to legally do anything on the side or pursue other employment if they were unwilling to obtain an LCA and have me do the E3 paperwork so my question is does the EAD (once I get it) finally free me of those constraints?

I know that is probably a stupid question but I'm trying to not get too ahead of myself. Also with the EAD is all that is required just to fill out an I9?

For the I-9 you will just need EAD plus SS card, which you will have already.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought. Hopefully the EAD ticks over to CPO imminently, seems like too much of a coincidence that my I485 ticked over to Testing & Interview the day I requested my I-765 to be expedited.

You probably know this already, but once you get the green card you won't need the EAD. For some people, the green card arrives before the EAD is approved.

Also it might be possible at the interview, if you're approved on the spot, to request an I-551 stamp on your passport to act as an interim green card until it arrives in the mail.

Was that accepted? I thought that was a little hard.

It is in progress, should know shortly. I got a request for supporting documentation to back up the severe financial loss reason and faxed them a letter from my employer stating I would have to go on leave without pay and a cover letter explaining how it would cause me financial loss and lost benefits etc so will see how that goes.

I'm sure it will be approved.

aussie_jason: Just to confirm, are you adjusting status based on marriage to a US citizen? If so, great, you can change employers or take up side work as soon as you receive your EAD. But if you're adjusting status based on a petition from your employer, it gets more complicated.

Yes via marriage to a USC with no assistance from my employer as there policy is to not get involved in cases that are family based so I'm clear on that front.
