i have been reading about this confusion of "Given name/First name/middle name all over the VJ and the major issue with SSN office. After going through whole lot of papers we filed for K1, I have discovered one very important thing which I am going to share with you all. I am not sure whether this has been discussed here before.

It begins with our passport. I checked my passport (Indian) & my husband's passport (USA), There are only two options I found in both the passport..."SURNAME & GIVEN NAME". There is no option such as "SECOND NAME". Normally in India name consists of three parts...FIRST NAME, FATHER'S OR HUSBAND'S FIRST NAME & SURNAME (OF FATHER OR HUSBAND) also called as FAMILY NAME OR LAST NAME. You do not get a choice to write father's or husband's name as your SECOND NAME while applying for passport & that is how you end up writing it along with your first name.

For example: My first name is TEJA, my father's name is RAVINDRA & my family name is MAJALI. On my passport my name appears as

SURNAME: MAJALI , GIVEN NAME: TEJA RAVINDRA... No option for second name. But while filing for I-129F, we had a choice of FAMILY NAME, FIRST NAME, MIDDLE NAME. So we filled my name there in I-129f as MAJALI TEJA RAVINDRA.

So now my question to all the experts here on VJ is that, what should we do when we HAVE a choice for second name & when we DO NOT HAVE choice for second name?
