SS card/Adjustment of Status for K1 visa applicant

Completely confused. My fiance and I will marry early April after she arrives here. Do I then apply for AOS and get a green card BEFORE I can apply for a SS card? That is what the SS Administration has suggested to me over the phone this afternoon. All this after someone told me it was easy as pie to get within a week (SS card) in my state for my fiance. She will only have a passport, marriage certficate, Family book (no certificates of birth in her country) as identification. Maybe i should just get a ITIN number from the IRS in order for her to have SOMETHING to use in order to get enrolled on my state healthcare plan. But then that looks like a long, winding process as well. Any insights?

A K-1 is entitled to a social security number as a matter of course, before marrying or filing for AoS, provided they have at least 14 days of validity left on their I-94.

You can apply for SS card when she gets here, with passport and I 94. You do not need to be married yet. We just went there with his docs, filled out the paperwork, a worker processed it, they didn't ask us anything or give us a hard time and it was done.
