I find it really interesting that there are so many viewpoints and many people think that their view is right, excluding the other views. Is it possible they can all be right in some way?

In the end, does it even matter what others think (I know some people will say yes, and others no)? As many have stated (and as I believe), it's between the wearer and Allah. And I am perfectly fine with others disagreeing with this.

:D:P

I think most of us are probably closer to believeing similar things than the discussion on this seems to show.

who me? I think this is my first post on this thread.

(F)

No I didn't mean you specifically. I said I found it interesting that there were so many viewpoints, meaning more than just a couple.

To our "new" green-eyed girl: I realize that you do not think it is fard, however there are people who do think it's fard.

Personally, I'm still trying to figure it out.

Regardless of whether it's fard or not, I do find a sort of satisfaction in performing such an act for Allah. I find it difficult here, but like Doodle said, she wore it in Egypt, and I plan to as well insha'Allah. We'll see what happens when I'm back from my trip.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

Fard isn't a matter of what anyone 'thinks". A faith that was dependent on what each person "thinks" would be a joke.

Fard is a legal term that requires application of legal methodology in determining wheter or not it qualifies as an obligation. It is also partly determined by whether a punishment can be applied for not doing one's duty to God. Headcovering has been proven not to qualify as fard, or a sin, but the decision whether to wear it or not is still yours.

I was typing a reply up and my computer went all wonky and everything shut down.

It's really not worth replying as I will only be repeating myself, which will lead you to repeat yourself. :P

 excellent observation!

Seriously though. Though I agree that covering the head is not obligatory under islamic law, there are many legal scholars who disagree with my understanding of islamic jurisprudence. Melly, I think you are on the right track and will figure it out for yourself. (but just remember if you disagree with my understanding of the law- you are wrong :P )

I'm sorry, but I'm only saying what is fact. Saying that something is fard because you "think" it is is like saying a measurement of a yard is 24 inches because you think it is. Some things in Islam are just facts, and you can disreagard them if you want, but that is not recommended.

I agree that one can decide for themselves whether headcovering is necessary for them or not, but I don't understand the attitude that Islam is a faith you can make up as you go along.

Was that the draw for you? That you think it has no rules and you can laugh at anyone who says there are rules?

I don't make these statements because i think. I make these statements because i have studied fiqh and its evolution over time. There is not one single school of jurisprudence and scholars do disagree. I happen to agree your interpretation is the correct one, but i am also hesitant to be so arrogant to say I am absolutley right in any matter that belongs to God.
