Is it okay to go from wearing hijab to not wearing hijab?

This is why hijab is not a good topic on public forums. Someone always gets hurt.

If it matters to you at all, amal, I don't think you're stupid, an idiot or anything of the sort. I do wonder why this is such a big, dayum deal to converts when there is so much more about Islam that's ignored. That's just my frustration talking.

consider who started this thread... that will answer your question

wow, that was a frickin' bi!chy thing to say. I take particular offense to it since I asked the most questions in this thread. If you don't want to see a thread or participate in it, then don't. If someone is sensitive about hijab, don't participate. If people aren't adult enough in here to discuss things other than recipes and head colds, then don't come to the dang thread. If people aren't adult enough around here to know the difference between a discussion and a judgement, then don't come into the thread. Sarah asked a perfectly acceptable question, and clearly there is always discussion and more questions about the topic, so how about you look at yourself the next time you decide to post some b.s. dig like this?

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Perfectly acceptable question if it hadn't been brought up numerous times and mostly by the same person(s).

I just searched Sarah's topics and this was the one and only topic I saw that she created about hijab, unless I am missing something.

I do recall responding a few times to this same topic perhaps brought up in a different way. Perhaps Sarah didn't create other threads specifically about hijab but I do recall threads about Islam and Sarah asking this specific question before. I don't have time or desire to go back and research old threads to prove a point.

Again..not sure why it's so damn intriguing. It's a piece of fabric for Christ's sake. There are so many things more important in Islam to discuss.

Right but Sarah is not a Muslim. Since hijab is something outward and visible, it could be something very curious to her. I would say a great deal of non-Muslim Americans associate Muslim women primarily by the hijab.

I'm not muslim either, and so I am curious about it. Apparently there are muslim women in this group who don't mind discussing, because they posted in this thread. If there are better things to talk about, someone should post threads with better things to talk about. I'd be happy to learn more about what you consider is more important.

It's much more than a piece of fabric and I think that's the root of why this topic keeps coming up. it's a symbol of so much of what is right and what is wrong within the Muslim community. I think when we are talking about hijab we are talking about so much more.

my best friend used to cover when she lived overseas (when in rome do as the romans do kinda thing) and when she moved back to america she uncovered. she figured no one would hire her if she was covered. unfortunatly, she didnt stop at just uncovering her hair but started wearing bakini bathing suits in public for all to see. she still swears to this day she is a muslem and fasts and everything.

I'm also curious. What does it symbolize besides modesty?

I would say it doesn't symbolize but actually shows what a significant difference there is in how muslims interpret the qu'ran. It's also an indicator of the different kinds of rulings that come down from different groups of muslims. And hijab is one reason why there is such a major mischaracterization of the rights of muslim women by non-muslim people.

Right... I AM curious about it. If you think there's too much discussion about hijab that's fine, then you don't have to partake in it. I have enjoyed reading most of the responses in this thread. I mostly asked because I know someone who started wearing hijab then got very uncomfortable with it and was debating whether or not to take it off.

If it's too much for some people then don't discuss it.

Sarachid I don't know what I did to you but your post to me about "look who started this thread" etc. is a little weird. Can I ask what your problem is with me having started this thread? Are you Muslim? Do you wear hijab? Why is it so offensive to ask? I'm not forcing anyone to respond....
