thanks tina!!!!

im gonna follow in ur steps and attempt tomorrow

Johan took literally no documents but his passport. Everything they need to see is in the system. For question 5, it was "legal alien allowed to work." When his card arrived a week later (5 working days), it had something along the lines of "cannot work without authorization" or something like that, written on it. He will still need his EAD card. But it was very easy. It was the day we got married, but we didn't have proof of that at the time.

We filed for Rich's before we got married. He brought in copy of I-94, birth certificate, and passport. They looked at all of them. We answered "Legal Alien Allowed to Work" but as Tina mentioned, his card states that he cannot work without authorization. I would bring in more documents that you think you need, to be honest, because I have heard many stories about people at SS office not knowing what they are doing!

If you're getting married and then filing, I would bring certified copy of marriage certificate and put the name you want to go by (assuming you are changing your name, therefore put your married name).

hey all,

im having a little trouble getting my SSN.

For those of you who filed BEFORE marriage, what documents did you provide? and what did you put for Q.5 CITIZENSHIP 'Legal Alien Allowed To Work' or Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work'?

For those that filed AFTER getting married, what documents did you take in? what did you put for Q5? and did you put your new surname on or kept it the same?

Hi everyone, just a quick question for any Canadians in here. We received our NOA2 on July 24th, so far we haven't received package 3 from Montreal or any instructions. On the CEAC site our case is ready, and I have the Montreal case number.

We currently have an attorney, who mentioned we're required to send documents over to the consulate... but from what I understand (and read) aren't we only required to send a copy of the DS-160, a copy of my passport and a signed copy of the checklist, stating we have all the documents ready for the interview? http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf

Or do we actually have to follow the instructions over here - which I think the attorney may be referring to: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/packet3-k1-mtl.pdf (this document states we're required to fill in the DS-230, DS156, DS-460 and send those over to the consulate).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I called the NVC tonight to get our case number and was told our case is currently undergoing AP, which can take 2-4 weeks to process. Were any of you told the same thing when you called? I'm pretty terrified that this might hold everything up. It seems our dates just keep getting pushed further and further back.

I am the petitioner.

Mine arrived just before Easter weekend. I called and got the case number and was told the same thing. It left the embassy that Monday and was at the embassy within 2 days. AP can mean literally nothing. :)

Edit to add actual dates: arrived nvc April 18, Good Friday. Left nvc Tuesday, April 22, made it to embassy on Friday April 25. This was after we were told it was in AP.

Yeah, I was definitely just being paranoid. They sent it off to Dublin today. Hahahaha. Thanks for the reply, though, it made me feel a lot better! I'm so used to hearing about the nightmares with "AP" at the consulate level, but then I realized the NVCs entire job with the K-1 is administrative processing.

The only real thing that frustrated me about Dublin was that they kept our status "in transit" for over a week when I knew they had it! But if you have all your documents together, you could literally have your visa in a month. They're very very fast! From letter telling him what day his appt was to visa in hand was less than 2 weeks! Our only delay post-NVC was Johan waiting for his police cert from South Africa.

Did anyone else have to go to a civil surgeon? What a ripoff!!! What's the point of getting the medical if most places are just going to make you get it again? I had called a place and they told me Rich could get JUST his vaccinations transcribed onto the I-693 for $75, no medical needed. He got there and of course they're saying he needs a new blood test and TB test since his information from his London Medical doesn't state anything about having them done. Then they claim the price is $100 for vaccinations transcribed! Such BS. As much as I despise USCIS at times, I really wish they would regulate civil surgeons in that regard. Because unfortunately, they make their own rules just to rip people off

/ End rant!!! Haha just had to vent some!! Has anyone else had any issues? The only reason Rich had to go is because he had two vaccinations after his medical, and USCIS won't accept vaccination records from outside doctors. I called about 20 places, most stated he needed to get another medical ($200+) even though he just had his. I read in a civil surgeons thread about a place that transcribed vaccinations for $24 but that the receptionists were uninformed so I called and lo and behold.. uninformed!! They said it could not be done, even though I said I know people have gotten just that.. Oh how I can't wait for this process to be over! :ranting:

I have to say that I'm very impressed with Dublin! NVC sent our case out on Friday the 29th and Dublin received it AND sent us our packet 3 on the 5th. We're sending the notice of readiness out tomorrow, as we already have all of our stuff together for the interview. I was wondering, though, as the packet 3 doesn't make it entirely clear... you ONLY send the notice of readiness back to the embassy, right? Not the DS-160 confirmation page or anything. Because there's a part in the packet 3 that says "we cannot process your case until you send us a copy of the DS-160," but I'm assuming they mean receiving it electronically after submitting it online.

I am the petitioner.

Yes, Dublin is fast and efficient. I just asked and he said that he didn't send back the ds160, but brought it with him. He thinks he did send back some stuff (like the list of addresses), but he can't really remember.

As for the civil surgeon, we sent in the vaccination form because ours was complete. I've read many people who really get screwed over by this part though. It's bs.
