What of our other Montreal filers?? ####### is that about?? Abby, I'm sorry you're dealing with this at all. It seems like complete bs to me. The good news is there is still plenty of time to get it sorted, and it seems like an easy fix. (((((HUGS)))))

Apparently w. T. F. Is edited for content. Haha

Thanks ladies. I am just so frustrated and pissed at this point I don't even know what to do. WHY was this not caught at the interview? And what exactly do they mean by assets? I didn't claim ANY assets on the I134. My income is sufficient plus I put what I have in savings. I am going to get a statement from the bank that everyone suggested on the thread I made and luckily it doesn't need an original signature so I can scan it and email it to him.....but is this what they're asking for? I hate how vague they are. This is pretty important so I wish they were more specific

Here is what they email said:

Hi, everyone! Hope all is going well! 11 days until our wedding and we are super excited!!! I do have a question though! Ben went to apply for his social security number today and they told him that everything should already be taken care of and he should have it before the 24th (3 weeks after he arrived) I found this a little weird because I've read everywhere that you have to apply for one...anyone else hear or go through anything like this?? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm. I definitely had to go apply for mine. How would they have his information? Did he give them anything? Can you call the Social Security Office and ask?

I got mine quite quickly after applying and it made me feel like a real live American. :D Even more exciting, once I had it, I officially had my first piece of mail/proof of address, so I could go get a library card! Eeeee. :P

I was going to say--Jake went with me to go get his SSN card and I changed my name. I think it helps if you're already married...you may NEED to be married already (though I could be mistaken??) as I brought our license with us. They had him check the box "Lawful Alien with Right to Work" but his receipt letter for the SSN stated he actually cannot work without DHS approval, which we knew. So basically they'll be tracking the SSN. We're fine with that! We can just add him to the checking account, credit card account, health care forms, etc. when the card arrives in 10 days. We'll send the AOS form in then, too, since it asks also for a SSN OR Alien #. The one weird thing that happened to us though? On Jake's passport and birth certificate, it says Given Name: JACOB STUART and then last name... his last name. So on his visa it says the same...so when they looked him up on the I-94 name match with first name Jacob Middle name Stuart, it didn't work! Turns out the USCIS has his first name as JACOB STUART. Like George Michael Bluth or something.... we said we didn't care, it's on all his forms and proof of ID anyway so we accepted it! ;)

Good luck!

Abby, that really really sucks! Why do they even care? You don't really need to show proof of income until AOS.....they sound like they're just being A-holes OR they lost something.....get your s*** together, Montreal!

:(

2/3/14 I-129F Mailed

6/16/14 Embassy Interview--Approved!!!!

7/11/14 Marriage :)

7/25/14 AOS + Work Authorization Mailed to Chicago Lockbox

7/31/14 NOA1--Electronic Notification

8/26/14 Biometrics Appointment--Indianapolis

9/18/14 EAD approved--Electronic Notification

2/15/15 Notice of Interview Waiver (and Case Delay due to heavy processing load)

5/5/15 RFE (Requested another certified copy of marriage license)

5/14/15 Submitted Materials for RFE

5/28/15 Greencard Approved/In Production!!!!!

My love is selfish. I cannot breathe without you. - Keats

Hahaha +1 for the Arrested Development reference!! You do not need to be married to get SS, I have actually heard that it's caused problems for people going to get theirs after marriage as opposed to before.. But we all know people at the SS Office aren't the smartest or well informed bunch when it comes to K1! We are planning on going a week or so after Rich gets here, but before we are married. Hope they don't give us any trouble!

I was expecting trouble at the SS office because I'd heard that some officers were unaware that k1's could apply, but my officer was the NICEST and it all went off without a hitch! I was so happy.

First of all, I want to catch up on congratulating everyone on their approvals, POEs and WEDDINGS! That is so exciting! Rachel, that picture you posted of the two of you is such a cute picture!

I've been so busy lately because I'm about to graduate college here in Germany! My fiance is in the middle of his transit from his overseas duty station so it's been a little crazy the past few weeks haha! However, we finally set a wedding date a few weeks ago and figured out how and where we want to get married :) And, I finally got my flight!

I have never read anything about receiving it automatically. However, I have read some horror stories on here about people having some real trouble getting their SSN. From what I've read, some employees are misinformed or simply don't know the rules of the K1. You should definitely try going back and applying for it :)

OMG I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!

So we finally heard from Montreal. Everything is fine with the Divorce Decree, but now they are asking Proof of my Liquid Assets????? What the heck! My income ALONE is a enough. I also put how much I have in my bank account on the I-134 for backup and gave Andre my bank statements. Is this what they're asking for?? I don't even know anymore :crying:

Abby, I'm so sorry! Sending positive vibes your way! :goofy:
