Dude pulls a knife on me and the odds are he is dead. I wil not be showing him my weapon to scare him.

Some dude pulls a knife on you at a gas station in the middle of the night in a bad part of town on your way home from a night of working swingshift. You go for your gun and he sees it and turns to run. By the time you are in a firing position be is a good 10 feet away and is no linger a threat. As he is running away being the pos that he is you will start firing into his back? Better have a good lawyer.

It would seem the problem with this conversation is. one side is for the general right of having the means to defend ones self....

And the other side transposes the incidents of this case as a typical example of what happens.

However it should be said that in a free society... one of laws and civilized people, one should be free to suggest someone turn down their music without having to fear for their life

(Whether or not that was the case here).

And it would be extra nice if they didn't have to carry a gun to over come said fear.

Unless ofcourse he decides to stick the knife in your throat as your going for your gun. Game over!

True story. Myself and a friend were both robbed by two guys at knifepoint on a subway platform in downtown Boston about 30 years ago. They came up behind us and pulled their blades, we had no chance to defend ourselves either with or without a gun, we handed over the $120 we had between us and the two clowns ran off. I can only imagine what would have happened if they realized either of us had a gun while they patted us down with a knife to the back of our necks. My thought is that's probably the best $120 we ever spent. I do not walk around packing heat, in fear for my life because it happened to me once.

Without this part, nothing would have happened

"Dunn told police that he asked Davis and three other teens, who were parked next to him at a Jacksonville gas station, to turn down their music."

Stop trying to "fix" society people. Mind your business.

Others rights stop where mine start. Not saying he should have told them to turn it down, but they were in the wrong. However he should have complained to the store or called police .

That was a mild inconvenience at most.

Complained to the store or called police? Because someone's music is loud for the few minutes they're pulled in it a gas station?

Good lord.

What an inconvenient world we live in full of cry babies.

If a pull up to vehicle that is playing loud music so hard it makes my windows shake, and every other word is Bitc* suck F*word etc, yes I have a right to not be subjected to that as do the parents with kids around me, Not wanting to does not make one a cry baby, it makes them respectful of others.

Is that what this music was? The article mentions nothing about the type of music being listened to. Why make that assumption? Don't see anything about windows shaking either.

C'mon Penny, they were black. What else would they be listening to?

How is it wrong? They didn't break any laws, nor did they hurt anyone. This dude made it clear he hates rap, he could have easily parked next to a quieter car. Not to mention he was at the store to grab a few things and leave, not hang around for an extended amount of time.

I hate loud music of any kind. But this guy has a hang up with "that" culture, which is why he made the choices he did.

If I pulled up to a gas station and someone was blaring music I didn't like, you know what I would do? Go on about my business, fill up my tank, grab whatever I need from the store, and leave. I'd be out of there in 5 minutes.

At no point would "I should call the police" cross my mind.

Exactly. By the time you place the call, give the report, and wait for the cops to come, those dudes would be long gone, and you'd look stupid.

It will always be like that here. They have to convince themselves it's justified or it doesn't exist. Rather than condemn the act, let's talk about it from the opposite spectrum.

was this the shooting that went down at a gas station? that's some f'ed up sh|t, right there.

still, i'm surprised it's taken this long to come to trial, but hey - at least it's coming to trial.

I cranks up the Opera and we have a stereo war. Usually I win, and make some new buds, as we're talking about gear. It's FUN !
