Bull. Drawing a weapon just escalated the situation. Never draw a weapon unless one plans on using it.

I disagree. Sometimes just the sight of a gun will change the mind of a coward criminal. It's amazing how someone will quickly change their mind when confronted with someone that is willing to defend themselves.

The nerve! The absolute nerve!

Well he ain't getting away with that ######. Where's my gun. ;-)

Yep, not turning down the music was punishable by death.

I think Merle is talking about situations where you flash to show you're CC so then the person would digress from the argument. Happens in a few cases, but like I said, doing that escalates as well. Just ask Mr. Dooley.

I know it's possible. The problem is folks who start an confrontation and rely on the gun to get them out of it. If this dude wasn't carrying, I'd bet anything he wouldn't have said shyt, and left that gas station with no incidents.

I can agree with that. What I can't agree with is this is the rule instead of the exception. I carry concealed from time to time and I have never had the urge to instigate trouble with someone knowing that I could just pull my gun on them if the situation went against my favor. They call it being a responsible and sane person. On the other hand, I have seen the evil in people first hand and I know that just being able to turn and walk away is not always an option. I just want to give myself every option to protect myself and my loved ones and I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of concealed carry gun owners feel the same way.

No I haven't been the victim of a violent crime. I'm not sure what difference that would make, other than possibly living in fear which you have said you do not.

Well once you experience it once you want to be prepared for it if it happens again. It doesnt have anything to do with living in fear. I carry jumper cables and a roll of toilet paper behind the seat of my truck as well.

Not arguing that. There's nothing wrong with CC if you want to protect yourself and family. I'm going to be getting my CC soon so I know I'll join this circle.

This case though, was a simple matter of someone who felt empowered with a gun and caused a situation that didn't need to exist. He confronted this kids because he knew he had his gun if it went sideways. Which it did, and it's a blessing that ONLY one kid was killed with him firing 9 shots into a moving truck in a gas station full of people.

It would seem the problem with this conversation is. one side is for the general right of having the means to defend ones self....

And the other side transposes the incidents of this case as a typical example of what happens.

However it should be said that in a free society... one of laws and civilized people, one should be free to suggest someone turn down their music without having to fear for their life

(Whether or not that was the case here).

Do you also wear a bulletproof vest and a parachute?

Yes that's the general idea, but should be the last resort. Just because you plan on using it doesnt mean you will.

Do you talk like this to people in real life or only on the internet?

I agree with what you said and I'll add that someone should be able to play loud music without having to fear for their life.

I'll even go so far as someone should be able to ignore a request to turn down their music without having to fear for their life.

The weapon should never be seen or pulled ever unless there is a reason for its use. Ever.

And yes I am in favor of the 2nd amnd and carry always.

I don't believe this case is a typical example by any means.

However, if the pro-gun crowd is going to post every story they come across of someone using a gun for a good purpose (saving themselves, their family, a stranger, etc from danger or protecting their own property) ... then you need to expect that others are going to post stories like this. Gotta take the bad with the good.

Some dude pulls a knife on you at a gas station in the middle of the night in a bad part of town on your way home from a night of working swingshift. You go for your gun and he sees it and turns to run. By the time you are in a firing position be is a good 10 feet away and is no linger a threat. As he is running away being the pos that he is you will start firing into his back? Better have a good lawyer.

Sure, one should be free to act "uncivil" without fear some one will kill them over it.

No doubt about it.
