As usual this began as a serious discussion (at least the other threads about this topic did). Risto doesn't start "serious" threads, only ones with usually anti-arab / anti-muslim one-liners.

I just questioned how Saddam was fascist and jihadist, as Risto appeared to claim.

People are too fast and free with the labels that the actual meaning gets left completely behind.

MSNBC is doing a life of Saddam retrospective in even greater depth than they did for President Ford. This is so bizarre. I can't believe this is actually happening. Terribly disappointing, IMO.

ETA: CNN is telling in detail what will happen with his body as he's hanged. This is so frickin' sick.

I think that's just because, probably, Saddam's life was a lot more interesting (i.e. violent) than President Ford's, so it makes for better TV.

I don't know if it was more interesting...it was more evil and sadistic. President Ford was an All-American football player at Michigan. He had several professional football offers but turned them down to get an Ivy League education and continue into politics. Every author I've read that discusses President Ford calls him one of the smartest men they've ever met. I'm sure if they put together something with half the effort they put together on Hussein, they could come up with something real interesting. Whether or not the braindead droves would watch it or not is another thing entirely.

I think the droves would still prefer to watch the carnage of Saddam's life. But there IS also a possibility that they will broadcast a fuller bio of President Ford on Tuesday, which I believe is the national day of mourning in his honor (and also the day of his funeral, I think).

look at it like this...the media had plenty of warning that sadaam's death was imminent. they had time to prepare their little retrospect. however, ford's death wasn't immediately expected. i'm sure we'll see lots of stuff over the next few days about his life, as well.
