Hi,

My mom is supporting my (now) husband and we are filling out the i-864. She files her taxes jointly with my dad, so we read to include her past 3 W2s as proof of gross income. Do we put down her wages from box 1 from the W2 as her gross wages? I'm confused on where to find the info to put to fill out part 6, question 13 of the form. Also, do they compare that number to the poverty guidelines or her total gross income..not just what is taxable in box 1.

Thanks,

Heather

Part 6 #5 is where she tells her income. It is gross. It can be from box 1 of her W2. But if she got a raise during 2013, she may make more now that her W2 wages say. So if she gets paid monthly, she can put down what she makes right now times 12 to give a yearly income. Does that make sense? Example--

2013 she made 1000/month for 6 months then got a raise to $2000/mo for the last half of 2013. Her w2 would say

$18,000. (6x1000)+(6x 2000)

But her currentt income for #5 is $24,000. (12x 2000). She would have to prove that with recent pay stubs or an employer letter since the W2 doesn't show it.

#13 is the number straight off the tax return line 22.

They look at the proof of her current separate income (#5) to determine she alone can support based on the household size.
