Coca Cola's Super Bowl ad featuring a multilingual rendition of "America the Beautiful" was refreshing to many - but left a bitter taste in the mouth of conservative pundits.

The one-minute commercial called "It's beautiful" - in which the patriotic standard is sung in seven different languages -- was meant to showcase the country's "incredible diversity," in the words of the soft drink company.

But radio host Glenn Beck told his listeners Monday that the ad is selling a divided America.

"So somebody tweeted last night and said, 'Glenn, what did you think of the Coke ad?,' Beck said in a segment flagged by Buzzfeed.

cocacola4f-5-web.jpg COCA-COLA The Coca-Cola 'It's Beautiful' ad was anything but to conservative critics like Glenn Beck.

"And I said, 'Why did you need that to divide us politically?' Because that's all this ad is. It's in your face, and if you don't like it, if you're offended by it, you're a racist. If you do like it, you're for immigration. You're for progress. That's all this is: to divide people."

Coca Cola's brand of cultural inclusiveness was tough for Beck to swallow.

"Every leader of the European union that tried multiculturalism is now warning America and the rest of the world that tried multiculturalism doesn't work, you have to assimilate," he added.

Fox News' Todd Starnes didn't exactly want to buy the world a Coke, either, tweeting:

cocacola4f-2-web.jpg COCA-COLA 'So was Coca-Cola saying America is beautiful because new immigrants don't learn to speak English?,' tweeted Fox News' Todd Starnes.

The commercial spot dredged up multiple hot-button issues for right wingers - the ongoing debate over the codification of English as the primary language in the U.S., immigration reform and the acceptance of same sex relationships in mainstream media. In one quickly glimpsed scene, two men, clearly a couple, embrace smiling.

Former GOP Rep. Allen West, another Fox News contributor warned that the ad from a "company as American as they come" is a sign that "we are on the road to perdition."

"Executives at Coca Cola thought it was a good idea to run a 60 second Super Bowl ad featuring children singing "America the Beautiful" - a deeply Christian patriotic anthem whose theme is unity - in several foreign languages," wrote Brietbart.com's Michael Patrick Leahy.

"The ad also prominently features a gay couple."

cocacola4f-3-web.jpg COCA-COLA Many commenters, however, embraced the 'melting pot' message of the ad.

Armchair critics took to Coca Cola's Facebook page and Twitter to denounce the ad and vow boycotts.

"Nice to see that coke likes to sing an AMERICAN song in the terrorist's language. Way to go coke. You can leave America," tweeted one disgruntled viewer.

Many other commentators, however, lauded Coca Cola for the embracing the ideal of the United States as a melting pot.

We know the conservatives are a little weird.

However, I do feel when immigrants move to a new country they should try their best to lean the cultural norms of the country and fit in to society, not form their own little country in our country.

I find this disturbing as I was talking with a half Madagascar and French girl the other day. She has been here 10 years and you can barely understand what she says because she hangs out with other Africans, stay in African areas and only speak French unless she is in class. This is no good. When I lived in other country I learned the language of my host and did not look to only be with other Americans.

Hahahahahaha now Glenn Beck is also a Eurosceptic! What an idiot.

I bet he can't even spell Merkel. Let alone know who that person is, or what they think.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

I agree Janelle, I think immigrants should learn the language - I mean how else can one succeed in another country if you can't understand and speak the language. But I didn't see this commercial as an English language debate, rather just showing culture inclusiveness. I just think that people like Glenn Beck and Allen West just lose their minds and think the whole world is collapsing on top of them and these immigrants are coming for their trucks and wimmin folk. rofl.gif <- that was a joke nature boy

Of course leave it to the anonymous morons of the internet to come out with the real hate language on twitter and facebook, that the Becks and Wests of the world can't say.

The second I saw the commercial, I knew this was going to happen.

Yeah of course...maybe in another generation some people will just get over it.

Anyway I got a kick out of the other videos in the playlist, especially #4 Behind the scenes and the Native American woman is saying how she remembers a bunch of people saying look at all these foreigners and she said you're the foreigner lol.

The other videos part of the playlist is a must see.

Since no one else is putting in their two cents (at least one worth hearing), I guess I might as well.

First I must confess I did not see the commercial so I am speculating that it had the feeling of - "We are a "collection of languages" at our core and this is a great thing.

And to that predictable celebration I would only say.... It's not great if you want to remain a United nation, or any nation at all.

The US has no official language. Canada has two. Vote accordingly.

What's that word right before the bright red word? "Or" It means any but not necessarily all.

A United States did not NEED an official language, as it prevailed naturally.

And yes I would have preferred if "or" had rather said "and" smile.png

but world history and fault lines in society always occur along language lines.... when those lines are present.

I too celebrate different languages but the goal of any nation should be that peoples can communicate by words rather than lead.
