Thanks Christeen, the ability-to-get-a-job factor alone is a huge reason to do so!

Work authorization is not the I-131 application. Learn your process thoroughly before you overstay. There are guides to read if you click on "guides" in the menu bar. Make sure you understand and have all the documentation required for a successful process because there is no appeal the way you want to do this.

If you are filing an I485 for AoS then you might as well file I131 for AP and I 765 for work authorisation at the same time, the fees are then all in one, no extra for AP and EAD. My AP and EAD took 70 days from filing to being in hand.

Sorry not to elaborate more on the forms... My point was more to,his question of why to file for AP and I was pointing out that the AP/EAD combo card can serve in case of emergency travel as well as the work authorization... By all means be sure to follow all the guides for the appropriate paperwork to file for you AP/EAD

OP: A few things.

1. You are not doing a K-3 visa like your tag. You are planning for file a concurrent I-130/I-485 adjustment of status.

2. You have been here 3 weeks. Why are you talking about overstay? Once you file your immigration papers you will begin a new period of authorized stay. You should be able to get that done in less than 2 months (!).

3. AP is perfectly safe to use if you have not overstayed, and it will be approved within 3 months from when you file. Both AP and EAD, the work document, are meant as stop-gap measures in case the Greencard itself (which is your Permanent Resident card) takes a long time. Those applications are free when filed based on a I-485.

Understanding these things, especially what you are filing for, will help you get correct answers for your situation. Good luck and congrats on the marriage.

Hello again. I have been doing lots of form-filling (they're all up to date and signed in black ink too) and want to send them off asap, but I'd just like confirmation that I'm not forgetting anything first. My list of things includes:

G-325a for me
G-325a for my wife
I-130
I-485
I-765
I-864
G-1145
2 passport photos of me with my name on the back
2 passport photos of my wife with her name on the back
Copy of marriage certificate
Check for $420

I am sending it all to

USCIS

Attn: FBAS

131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor

Chicago, IL

60603-5517

I could include a cover letter and/or details & dates of our relationship history if that would help? Any advice appreciated.

You have a lot more studying to do. There is more than just forms. There is documentation.

You are doing 3 applications so it's not one big pile of forms.

I-130 -PETITION $420

Payment

G-325a for me, 1 passport photo

G-325a for my wife, 1 passport photo

Proof of US citizenship

Copy of marriage certificate

Anything showing bonafide marriage you have...joint things in both names

I-485 - GREENCARD $1170

Photographs (2) of immigrant (passport type)

Photocopy of birth certificate of immigrant with translation

Photocopy of passport biographical page

Proof of legal entry

Form G-325A Biographic Information Sheet (immigrant)

Form I-864 Affidavit of Support (by USC) with photocopies of supporting documents:

---tax return

---Employment letter

---six recent pay stubs

Marriage Certificate

Anything showing bonafide marriage you have...joint things in both names

Form I-693 complete medical exam

I-765. WORK - no fee

Photographs (2) of immigrant (passport type)

Photocopy of passport biographical page

This is not a comprehensive list, but a suggestion that you need to study each application and figure out what each one requires and included it, even if a repeat. Read the full instructions for each form.
