I am a green card holder, married to an American and have been living in the US for about 9 years now. My sister (Canadian) would like to come down here and stay with us while looking for a job. While looking, she wants to do something part time to keep earning some money. I have no idea if there is a work visa that would allow her to do this. We have looked at all the options and none seem right for her. She is not looking for a professional job that applies to her college so any of the H visas do not work. Do we have any options? We're feeling pretty stuck right now.

Your sister cannot simply go to the US to live with you and find work.

If she wants to live and work in the US, then she needs a US employer who is willing to certify with the Dept. of Labor that no US person could be found to do the job and that is why the employer needs a work visa for a foreign worker.

Without a college degree, your sister has zero chances for a work visa.

Furthermore, there is no doing something part time to earn money without work authorization. This is illegal work that will get her deported and ban from the US.

She has a college degree (well diploma, her program was a 3 year animation program) but was wanting to know if there is a visa to work while looking for a job that could offer an H-1.

No.

If she wants a work visa, HER US EMPLOYER applies for one on her behalf.

There is no work visa or work authorization she can get on her own to look for a job. It simply does not exist.

Why don't you just file for your US citizenship after living here for 9 years and then just file the I-130 for your sister?

Here's some other information under NAFTA your sister may be eligible for.

Even if she was a US citizen, it's a 12 years wait for her to petition her sister.

Also, the other options requires proof of a qualified US job.

There is no go to the US to apply for a work visa to look for a job.

A foreign person seeking a work visa MUST HAVE a qualified job offer from a US employer.

Does she speak Spanish?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

you are correct on all counts except one......I work in the construction industry, from Canada, and acquired a work visa without a college degree.....later a green card and now a us citizen
