Any Swedes out there that have had the same experience? We got a RFE which stated

"submit a photocopy of the original marriage certificate for the marriage of xxx and xxx. The marriage certificate must be issued by an appropriate civil authority. In order for the marriage to be considered valid for immigration purposes, it must have been registered with a civil authority from the location where the marriage took place. The document must include the date of the registration and the signature of the registrar. If the marriage certificate is not in english, you must also submit a complete english translation"

Anybody knows what to do? the marriage certificate that I sent them in the first place was the original which in Sweden is like a diploma. thats it.

What kind of marriage certificate did you submit?

Registerutdrag?

We got married in Sweden but are not Swedish residents. Skatteverket gave us a Registerutdrag and a Vigselintyg (this one I needed for Polish authorities cause they didn't like the Registerutdrag for some reason ugh) . I also requested an official letter from them stating these two documents were all we could get from Swedish authorities and that they are valid and sufficient.

And so we submitted all three: Registerutdrag, Vigselintyg and the letter.

I have read that USCIS often sends RFEs for Swedish marriage certificates, so I'm a bit worried...

edit: we also got a "diploma-like" certificate but our officiant told us it is only a souvenir.

The one I had submit was only the "registerutdrag" but it was in english and its called "extract of the population register" (I assume thats the same as "registerutdrag").

So Im gonna call the swedish tax authorities and ask for the "Vigselintyg" I assume the only do it in swedish so I have to translate it.

They also state in the RFE "The document must include the date of the registration and the signature of the registrar." Will the Vigselintyg fulfill that requirement??

Or do I have to try to get something from the person who did the wedding? We didnt do it in a church, we did it in the city hall.

You got an RFE for Registerudtrag? UGH! I was told by Skatteverket that this is the official marriage certificate.. Now I'm glad I submitted the Vigselintyg as well and I hope USCIS will find it sufficient cause there is nothing else Skatteverket could issue us!

But all the documents we got from them were signed and stamped.

Vigselintyg is a document prepared by officiant before a wedding, then signed and sent off to Skatteverket.

Btw, did you get married in Stockholm? :)

I registered our marriage in Poland too so we have a Polish marriage cert as well now, anyone has an idea whether this would work? In case USCIS has a problem with the marriage certs we submitted... I am so nervous now!

Anyhow, are you or your spouse Swedish residents? if so, you can obtain a Personbevis.

Quite a few people here on VJ encountered the same problem with Swedish marriage certificate and Personbevis seems to be the document USCIS and NVC want.. http://www.visajourney.com/search/index.php?cx=007424365766759747816%3Auy9flr-th5y&cof=FORID%3A10&q=personbevis+marriage&sa=Search&siteurl=www.visajourney.com%2Fforums%2Fforum%2F134-ir-1-cr-1-spouse-visa-case-filing-and-progress-reports%2F&ref=&ss=1199j216413j9

(We cannot obtain one though, as non-residents we do not have Personnummers so no Personbevis for us! )

Hope this helps and please let me know what you find out :)

Which service center? Texas sent me an RFE for a marriage certificate that was "registered". I sent them in the exact same copy of my marriage license with a cover letter explaining where to find the info and it was fine.
