Not necessarily.

When you say "clear," I assume you mean that no criminal hits or other events that compromise your claim of "good moral standing" were associated with the bio-metrics query.

What it does mean (i.e., being placed in-line to be scheduled for an interview after recording your bio-metric data), as far as I know, is that:

a) Your bio-metric data (fingerprints and passport-style photograph) were captured successfully

b) That the data has been applied for its purposes (background checks at the FBI), and that a complete record was accessed

If your record shows hits that hint at a compromised "good moral standing," I imagine you would still be placed in-line to be scheduled for an interview with the benefit of the doubt that you could explain/justify any negative hits on your record.

Good luck.

I just completed my biometrics this morning. The Chatsworth, CA office was actually quite busy with both the fingerprints area and the interviews area full of people. I waited for about 20-25 mins for my number to be called in. I have this irrational fear though that my biometrics could be rejected(???) I have small fingers and the officer kept pressing them from one side to the other to capture the biometrics, and there would still be small red dots (or small red areas) on the fingerprints on the screen

She kept telling me to relax my fingers, and I tried to co-operate as best as I could, and she didn't actually repeat the process with any of my fingers, but could they come back and say my bios were rejected? My fingerprints last year went through successfully, though I do remember the officer pressing them from one side to the other again. Am I wrong to assume that, if there was a problem, the system would notify them right then that the fingerprints were not captured correctly, and that they would need to repeat the process until it was successful?

My irrational fears  I guess if I get an 'in-line for interview' notification in the coming days, I can at least relax a bit.

Other than that, it went very smoothly and the actual fingerprinting process lasted less than 5 mins. They gave me a booklet with the study material for the naturalization test, and off I went :)

You will probably be fine - but don't panic if you don't get your status updated to "in line for interview" right away. They will not do that step until you are 30 days from your actual eligibility date, which looks like is sometime in June? So your status won't change until some time in May, since they go by Resident Since date of your green card.

Christi85,

Yes, you probably are being a little irrational. Unless you've had surgery or abrasions and/or lacerations on your fingertips since the last time your bio-metric data were captured successfully, there is no reason to expect a different outcome this time. Those little red dots you seen on the screen as your fingerprints are passed onto the digital reader are markers that are built into the programme to make identification of your ridge detail easier, and thus, raise the quality of your prints. You should be concerned if the dots did not appear. As for "rolling" your fingertips from side to side, this is standard. The USCIS is attempting to capture a complete sample of your entire print which is more "complete" that the simple one-face press digital scan you might record on arrival at a US airport.

I would not hold my breath for a notification that you have been placed in-line to interview for "some time," certainly not in the "coming days" as you indicated above. I'm trying to understand these timelines more confidently, and everything I've seen so far points to receiving this notification at least a few weeks' wait after recording one's bio-metric data.

Good luck!

Thank you guys, you make me feel better :)

My fingers have not changed since last year at all, so hopefully that is an indication that they will go through again.

I don't mind not being placed in line for interview until later, as my eligibility for citizenship is not until early June anyway, and based on my field office's stats from previous months, people seem to have their interviews 2-3 months after their fingerprint session. So I wasn't expecting an interview until around July anyway, and the notification sometime in June. I was under the impression though that you were placed in line very soon after the bios, like within a week or two, and then you waited 1-2 months to actually be scheduled and get the interview letter. Good to know it may not be the case, so that I don't drive myself crazy

We'll see what happens. I'll update as we go.

When I went to my fingerprint appointment, the lady doing my fingerprints was a little rough. She was really nice though. Anyway, she kept telling me to relax and she kept moving me from one direction to the other. She did them really fast to the point that I got concerned that she wasn't doing them right. As I was driving home, I had to remind myself that she's a pro and has done it so many times that she knows what she's doing and I was right because I went to my appt on 3/28 and on 1/1, I got put in line and was scheduled for my interview. In conclusion, I'm sure you'll be OK. They know what they're doing.

Good luck.

But if you're scheduled for the interview, chances are that the background checks are done, right?!?

bennobot,

Sorry if I confused anyone:

1) If you are placed in-line to interview, it is almost certain that the background checks were done

2) Being placed in-line to interview cannot be interpreted as a clean record in the background checks

Ahhhh...Ok makes sense now. Basically, the background checks are pretty much completed but it depends on your personal record if it's clean or not based on the fact if you have a criminal record. That's all the check for anyway, right? Criminal record?

I had my biometrics appointment today, too (and had a mini heart attack when checking-in because I thought I had lost my ID but luckily it was just hidden in my wallet, lol).

I have a 3/4 inch long cut on the side of my left thumb from slicing my finger with a box cutter a few days ago which was clearly visible on the screen. I worry my fingerprints will get rejected because of it but I'm sure the technician would have said something if it was an issue, right? <_<

missicy,

That is unusual. Such a long and visible cut would have been grounds for the Application Service Support agent to advise you to return once the cut is healed. It is quite possible that you only find out much later that he prints were rejected. However, it is also quite possible (and hopefully the actual outcome in your case) that despite the cut, your prints can be properly processed.

I only indicated it was quite unusual to be processed with a cut finger since there is so much anecdotal evidence of petitioners with visibly compromised fingers being advised to return as walk-ins once those fingers are no longer compromised.

Good luck!
