My fiance is a USC, I am Canadian. We have applied for our K1 visa and received our NOA1 on December 3 2013. Since then, my fiance has been offered a job posting in Italy (for a year). He loves it there and would like both of us to be there, together. It would be a great experience. Question is; does anyone know how to go about this? If we get married; would I be "allowed" to stay with him for the time he is there? Also, when we come back, would I have to come back to Canada, or could I just apply for the k3 visa while I am overseas? Any comments or experiences would help at this point...Thx!

As far as being allowed to live with him in Italy... If he is given a work visa or Permesso Di siorggiourno it usually is extended to immediate family (wife) but he will need to advise the company so,they can process the paperwork so you have no delay. Being from Canada, it should not be an issue... Once you are over there, you should apply for the spouse visa CR1 as it takes about a year to process... As a permanent resident of Italy, you can interview and apply in Italy (Naples consulate)... Which is actually usually faster than Canada for interview scheduling. Enjoy and congratulations

Everyone seems to say that, I guess I was one of the lucky ones. From filing to arrival in the US was 6 months + 1 day. I was able to schedule my interview 19 days after my NOA2.

That aside, I'd go for Italy! We love it there, and are planning to go back later this year :)

Good luck!

Yeah, I think it's mostly the Montreal consulate that has the long wait time. Vancouver seems to move A LOT quicker.

I live 45 km's from Montreal but am seriously debating if I should ask for an interview in Vancouver and just fly out there.

Sure you could leave at any time and you can stay there as long as you have a visa as needed. You couldn't AOS since that assumes that you will be permanently residing in the US. When ready he would apply for a CR-1 spousal visa for you.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

thx...we are not married yet, but assuming we get married before we go to Italy, then apply for spousal visa/family reunion visa (before leaving) -I should be good to go to Italy, correct?

Could we not apply for the CR-1 while living in Italy? (I hear its a long process). When we come back from Italy after a year I would think that CR-1 process would be pretty much complete...and then deal with the AOS

Actually, you can file DCF from Italy while living there (look at the guides for DCF) and it is SUPER quick... Like 2-3 months to process...
