Amen to that.

I would presume the child to be a dual citizen, which might give the mother some options, none of them ideal, to be sure.

Amen to that to.

The divorce would be handled in a USA family court. USA family courts generally do not allow children to be moved out of state, and often out of the county unless the other party agrees to it. Asking the court to allow you to move the child to another country which does not recognise USA court decisions regarding child custody would be unheard of.

I could be completely wrong and I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the US recognizes dual citizenship, even if other countries do. In the eyes of the US government, if the child was born on US soil, he/she is a US citizen, period.

You are not wrong. The US allows for multiple citizenship but only recognizes US citizenship, for US citizens on American soil.

Technically, you are wrong.

The US has no laws that allows or disallows multiple citizenship.

Specifically, there is nothing that allows for multiple citizenship. There is also nothing that disallows it.

Since it is not disallowed, then it's okay for a US citizen to have other citizenship.

But we have court precedent on the matter of dual citizenship and recognise it. True, we have no laws against it, other than under certain circumstances a person holding dual citizenship can lose their US citizenship.

The legal consequence of which being that the US allows for dual citizenship for all cases not covered by the citizenship laws.

Well I see one glaring error in that article, the Philippines allows dual citizenship with the USA. They didn't used to, but its been legal for quite a few years now. They do want you to re-affirm your Philippines Citizenship, but thats about it.
