This new petition, launched yesterday, might help some of you who came to the US as international students or would like to start a business in the US: http://wh.gov/lR1yz

The petition's text is as follows:

Issue a presidential directive protecting foreign STEM grads & entrepreneurs while Congress debates immigration reforms.

While we still hold out hope for innovative policies such as green cards for STEM diplomas and the proposed "startup visa," a stopgap measure (similar to the administration's DACA directive) is critical to maintain the status of foreign-born STEM graduates and entrepreneurs.

Specifically, we urge the president to 1) offer STEM graduate degree holders some form of conditional residency until more permanent measures are put in place, and 2) authorize self-sponsored H-1B petitions for entrepreneurs in lieu of a dedicated visa.

In the meantime, each day of failed Congressional compromise on immigration results in another batch of talented young scientists & entrepreneurs being forced to leave our shores. An executive directive will stem that tide as we work toward a broader solution.

Alas, I would only posit that if'n you actually got a masters degree and learned something on OPT,

you should go home and apply your new skills back in yer home country

and not chase any H1-B status.

Sure, there's a loophole, still, that allows for that, and IMO, is disengenuous (sp?) to the entire USCitizen workforce.

But that's really not the point. The point was and continues to be,

you were to go home after finishing your schooling.
