Hey all,

so I've been trying for over 4 weeks to realize why the online system doesn't let me enroll my application to get a health insurance (my AOS is in process, got my EAD recently, and my GC interview is scheduled for February 18th). Like seriously, nobody knew the answer why, so I started digging and thinking, that maybe its because i do not have my green card yet? Does anyone here know it this may be a reason why? I have my SSN, but i do not think it. changes anything..

If you are here legally, which it sounds as though you are, then you are eligible to become insured in the affordable healthcare Act (Obamacare). The heatthcare.gov site does appear to finally working properly. I see you are an Illinois resident, but I personally dont know if they are using the healthcare.gov website or if Illinois has there own website. I read on the website that anyone that is here legally, can partake in it, they have a pretty through FAQ part also. If you cant find the answers you need, then try calling 1-800-318-2596 and talk to a real live person.

I live in Washington State and yeah, there's a website washingtonhealthcare. I called customer service more than 15 times, and nobody could help me ;/ I don't believe I am the only immigrant waiting for her green card and wants to get a health insurance... it's just weird they cannot help me enroll in my application. Anyway, thank you for your response Bill&Ivy , I think I'll just try to get a short-term insurance somewhere, if I still doesn't let me enroll in my healthcare.gov application

Unfortunately you can't get it without status. It all about benefits which is giving status.Obamacare plan is not even for all citizens. only under some level of income. so it's sort of benefit program. And on your SSN written "only for work". watch if document close.

EAD is mostly useless.

Very few serious companies will hire for work without any status

You can't apply for study cause you are not with student visa and no status.

You can't apply even for driving license in some states, asking status.

You can't get gun permit without it too.

yes, you have no real status, yet, so you cannot be verified electronically <EOM>

there are other insurance carriers that will pick you up, they not need to follow ACA rules/guideline.

Shop around (more) - and note USUALLY the state carriers that are IN ACA also have OTHER plans, other offices to call, for the non-ACA plans.

Yes you can get insurance under The Affordable Healthcare Act. You do not need to have your green card yet. I presume you are applying with your husband? There are boxes on the application form where you can put your I-94 details, or your I-797C receipt number. We made several phone calls, and attempted to fill in the online forms dozens of times, before we finally got our insurance.

You need an Obamacare approved cover or you will be penalised.

You are eligible to use the Exchange.

Same boat for me as well. Tried applying many times online and over the phone. I eventually just printed off the paper application and mailed it in a few days ago, since I really had no faith in the online system working any time soon.

All I know about Obamacare with our high deductible health plan, it rose from $3,500 to $6,500.00 when the date changed from Dec. 31st to Jan 1st. We have to lay out that amount before our health insurance covers our medical expenses. Not only us, but everyone of my family members and friends experienced the same thing.

Checked with our health insurance company to close that extra $3,000 gap, would cost us another $4,400.00 per year, whether we used it or not! Wonder what crook came up with this number, $1,400 more to close a $3,000.00 gap?

Premiums also went up by 1.8%, this is comprehensible as this is last years inflation rate. Also do to this, hospital workers are forced to take PTO due to the many appointment cancellations in January. Idiots are going to price themselves out of business.

I don't think I like Obamacare.

LadyPiret,

What error are you getting? All these guys are trying to troubleshoot your problem but you didn't give any information...

The error says due to ID verification we cannot process your application. Whenever I asked about it they just couldn't answer why. I shared a session and showed them my screen but still didn't get an answer, all they could tell me was "wait 24h, try tomorrow". I was applying alone. Oh well, I think I will just try a short-term insurance somewhere else
