First, make sure your police clearance is dated for 2014 (if you got it done in 2014) not 2013 like my local police dept. did. Second, make sure the letter of intent is the original. A print of it won't do. Third, don't watch the people who go up before you. It can make you pretty nautious. I saw six interviewees head for the elevator in tears. Fourth, don't take bags to the building. I saw roughly 10 people removed from the line to enter the building because they had a bag with them. Fifth, don't leave cough drops in your pockets. They really don't like organics showing up on their scan of your stuff. Six, you can take your cell phone. They'll give you a ticket and keep it stored, off, in a mail slot. Must have your ticket to get your phone back.

Majority of people have never come across VJ--so probably not as well prepared.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yep. I had my police clearance done Jan 6, 2014. My interview was Jan 28th, 2014. The police department dated it completed Jan 10th, 2013. So with my signature/date on the clearance and my receipt, it was enough to prove I had it done in 2014 and not 2013.

I think the point here is that it needs to be done within the last year before your interview date as Floridaboundcanuck said. Sounds like your police department accidentally put last year's date instead of 2014 which caused the confusion.

Wow, been here in TX for almost 2 yrs.....reading this makes me shudder over the memorys of the day back in mid 2012 when we did the whole interview thing....Got denied at the window over proof of domicile issues, and left feeling defeated.. Took another 6 weeks and some good ol Republican Senator assistance to get things done.
