we both are on the same boat, i sent my AOS few days back and made the same mistake

i used adjusted gross but my accountant filles 1040 in 2011, and 1040ez on other years

this sucks, cray5ol.gifcray5ol.gif

Whoa. I would have had this exact same issue - I have two years on the 1040EZ and most recent year on the 1040. I had no idea that year needed total income instead of adjusted gross like the other two. I hope it doesn't slow you down too much!

I just talked to the most horrible woman at NVC, I normally get really nice people - this woman had me in tears by the end of the call yelling at me, and telling me I'm not listening, when really she just was not answering my question. I'm going to ask here, not sure if anyone would know.

So on 1/24 we sent out 1-864 supporting documents (AOS), received the auto-reply and then a few business days later received an email stating to give them 20 business days to review. Then on 1/31 we sent in the DS-260 supporting documents (IV), received the auto-reply but nothing since. When I called in I was advised that one email (they cannot confirm which one) was received on 1/27 (well I know that would be the AOS package) but nothing more is in their system. She said all she sees is that on 2/4 an email was sent out (that would be the one confirming the AOS package) So I guess my question is, should I be worried if my IV package email is not in their system? AOS emailed 1/24, in system 1/27 and confirmation emailed 2/4. IV packaged email 1/31, nothing in system and only auto-reply received. I asked the woman if I should be worried and she said I was cutting her off, didn't understand the way it worked and I could send again and delay my case by 30 days.

Thanks for the assistance!!

Hello,

I have a question regarding DS 261, I just notice when reviewing form I submitted . It asks for Principal Applicants information:

Surnames and Given Names listed in passport... When filling this form out I used my wife's new Surname, she is adopting my last name during the this process. Do you think this will be a problem? all our letter coming from USCIS and NVC have her new lastname on them.. can someone advice?

It should be okay, don't worry about it.

is it ok if we pay the AOS and IV at the same time? will i be able to fill ds260 if we haven't paid the AOS yet?

Since they're part of two separate tracks, it doesn't matter which you pay first as they have nothing to do with one another.

The DS-260 only becomes available after the IV bill is showing as PAID. Again, the DS-260 is part of the IV track and has absolutely nothing to do with the AOS track.

hi,

how can i obtain my tax transcripts online? or by mail? I have been trying without success. I filled my taxes join return with my ex husband. should this be a reason why I am unable to get them online?

You get the tax transcripts here: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

Have you tried both options (online and mail)? If so, what error are you getting?

I know that Saylin says that the U.S. citizen can fill DS-261 and and DS-260 in the States. But .... I am nervous about one issue: I looked at the old DS-3032 and DS 230 and I see that there are places where the Applicant (the beneficiary) has to sign. If I fill this these forms online in the U.S. for my wife (who is in Pakistan), will I get to a point that says something like: "By submitting this form you are attaching an electronic signature" (or some similar wording).

Does anyone know if I actually get to a point like this in the online versions of the form? If this is the case, would I not be forging my wife's signature electronically if I fill out DS 261 and DS-260?

Maybe I am being too nervous about this, but I would appreciate knowing how you all dealt with this issue.

Many thanks -- and many thanks to you too Saylin!!

As another member said, yes, it'll have wording like that. But, as they also said, there's a preparer question. NVC understands that not all beneficiaries can fill the online forms out for themselves (either due to a language barrier or due to low/no internet connection [or even both!]), so like I said, it's fine to fill it out on their behalf.

Hi all, two questions:

I know it says above that petitioner and beneficiary receive case number but can someone else confirm? Where my stepson lives, it could be weeks before he receives anything by snail mail.

Also, for copies of tax returns, do they want state and all schedules or just 1040?

Thank you!

One other thing! Does anyone know the required passport photo size in centimeters (for brazil)?

That's why you need to call every so often so you can give over both email addresses, so no snail mail is sent out. Emails are received within a few days, snail mail can take months.

For tax information, it's just federal, not state. Please read the I-864 instructions again.

The photo size is in US, 2 inches by 2 inches. This doesn't vary by the beneficiary's country. The beneficiary is applying for a US visa, not a Brazilian one.

Saylin,

Any idea if NVC has information on empty interview slots of each embassy?

Can i call NVC and ask if South Africa has availability for March?

I know that sometimes when I called, they would tell me March is all filled up. Then April is all filled up. But, I'm not sure if they can go and check if there are actually empty slots still available. Worth a shot though. Just go ahead and try asking ;)

NYC.RSA- How do you know that your checklist response was received and that it is in the system? Did you call or is there another way of checking?

Thank you!

Calling! Call, call, call!

Fellow NVC fillers,

My husband (petitioner) received an email from Embassy in Tokyo, saying

"NVC is transferring immigrant visa file to U.S. Embassy Tokyo"

"In the meantime, you may prepare the medical documents for your immigrant visa processing."

"Also, the Immigrant Visa (IV) Electronic Application (DS-260) is now available for you to complete."

Our case# and IIN were just assigned yesterday, and we haven't even filed DS261 yet.

It doesn't sound bad, but I am confused because I thought "case complete" will happen before transferring to embassy...

Is it the standard email we are supposed to get after they assign case#?

Did you ask for an expedite?

hi guys can u please inculcate me abt the check list which i got from NVC.

"A letter was sent to the petitioner or attorney of record indicating the

Affidavit of Support requirement for this case is incomplete. Please

submit the requested Affidavit of Support form(s) and/or financial

evidence, as indicated on the checklist. The requested information must

be submitted to the NVC for this file to continue processing.

so what i need to include when sending the required document back 2 NVC. How much time they will take 2 complete my case when i send the AOS document. Thanks i advance.how much time it will take for medical & interview if my case gets completed by the end of this month.Mine embassy is New Delhi INDIA. I m bit worried abt VB retrogression as Mexcio has gone back 2 2012.God bless u all

On the checklist itself, it'll indicate what's wrong and/or missing. Read the ENTIRE thing, not just one paragraph. It'll take about the same amount of time to review the checklist as it did the initial package.

Time frames for interview vary by country. On average, globally, it's typically around 2 months from case complete date to interview date, getting the interview date sometime in between. The medical is scheduled by YOU, not anyone else. Most panel physicians require the interview letter, so you'll have to wait until you at least receive that before scheduling a medical.

I just talked to the most horrible woman at NVC, I normally get really nice people - this woman had me in tears by the end of the call yelling at me, and telling me I'm not listening, when really she just was not answering my question. I'm going to ask here, not sure if anyone would know.

Thanks for the assistance!!

Sorry about the operator experience. I only got one mean one the entire time I called and I was nearly in tears by the end as well.

To answer your question, I wouldn't worry too much about it. These things can take time. And due to the closings they've had from the weather, they're a little behind. Just keep calling once a day and asking if there's any updates on either package.

Dear Saylin and anyone can help,

Im the beneficiary. My husband is in US and I live in HK and so we sent the AOS and IV package separately last month. We did tracking on our packages and both were signed and received at NVC. Today we received an email saying there is information missing. it states as follow,

INSTRUCTIONS FOR: My name (the beneficiary)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
______F - FINANCIAL EVIDENCE:______________________________________
We received your Immigrant Visa Application; however, we have not received an Affidavit of Support
form. You must submit an Affidavit of Support form before we can complete your case.
Please go to our website immigrantvisas.state.gov for instructions on how to obtain, complete, and
submit an Affidavit of Support form.
When responding to the National Visa Center, please include the bar code sheet that came with this
letter. Failure to include the bar code sheet may cause a delay in the processing of your case. The bar
code sheet should be placed on top of all documents being submitted for this case and mailed to the
address provided.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________-
First question came to mind is that why the INSTRUCTION is for me?? i thought the AOS form is supposed to be completed by my husband, the petitioner. And he has already sent his AOS package to NVC too.
Second Question: Although my IV package was sent from HK and my husband's AOS was sent from US and there might be a few days difference in arriving the NVC, they would have both packages reviewing at the same time by now. Is it possible that his AOS still in transit and not reached the file?
Thank you for your help!

This is what we call a false checklist here on VJ. For more information, please review post 2 as there's an exact question/answer on this.

Hello,

We won't receive our NOA2 hard copy (we moved out) and we notified USCIS right after receiving the email notification. However I feel like the inquiry the Tier1 filed on the phone won't help.

Could anyone tell me if the NOA2 hard copy is absolutely needed for next stages?

Thanks a lot.

He is a US citizen, lived in the UK, now moved back to the US. I am French, we met in 2010 in the UK and got married in March 2013 in France.
