I think I just caught myself in a mistake sad.png

On my I-864, I originally had entered my total income from the "Total Income" lines on my last three tax transcripts. Then, I had read in another thread where someone got a checklist because they were supposed to use the adjusted gross income. So without verifying what type of form I used to file my taxes, I changed my I-864 to list adjusted gross income.

After reading this now, I went back to look at my tax transcripts and I did file a 1040 and not the 1040ez, which means I should have used "Total Income", so I will be getting a checklist.

Because I have noticed this beforehand, can I be proactive and send the form with the current amounts or do I have to wait for the checklist?

I called NVC and they told me I could send the I-864 again, and to send all the supporting evidence as well to be on the safe side.

Anyone else have this experience?

I just got police clearance this morning :)

DS261 is available but have to wait to fill till I'm home tonight to have printer.

It seems things are going well so far.

but we are still waiting for my husband's tax transcript and joint sponser's I864.

I sometimes feel horrible to ask my husband and his family to prepare all the document ready.

(and it takes time to get them from his family since we live in Japan)

Hopefully it works out ok...

Hello everyone

is it ok to call Nvc? after one gets NOA2 , is it ok to call them? after a week from noa2....i wonder as at paper we received ( noa2 ) it is said to wait 30 days before contacting NVC and if not hear from them within 30 days to email them...none mentioned any calling...

I dont know if we can call them to check if they received case and all other things we would like to ask...as such possibility was not mentioned at noa2... or if they will send mail with instructions to beneficiary or an email ..

thanks

Saylin,

I am petitioning my 2 kids ages 15 and 13. I am still waiting for case number/s. But is it okay that I just create an email for my both kids and give that to the NVC operator when I get the case #?

Thanks

You can call them and that's what we did.

Our NOA2 date is Jan 21 and we started calling about a week after that.

We called once a week and got case# and IIN today.

They were nice and even answered our questions about the form too.

What I found was that foreign earned income doesn't count as income unless you didn't claim the foreign earned income exemption when you filed your taxes. I don't know if this info is correct or not. We filed 1040 and 2555 for the past three years also. We are confused about what to put in the income section. If my understanding is right, we SHOULD put $0 on there for 3 years!!!

Saylin or other respected NVC savvies, do you know anything about this or what's ur advice?

2. You have to use the EXACT line. So, if it ends up being $0, so be it. Doesn't matter how it looks. If you put any other number, you WILL get a checklist.

(edited for bad info)

My most recent tax transcript from 2012 is a lot more complicated. My stepdad's accountant did it for me and it looks like my "total income" is actually NEGATIVE (because of a loss in the stock market and I suppose my foreign income goes to $0).

I guess I'd just say put whatever your tax transcript says. Does this seem right?

I called NVC and they told me I could send the I-864 again, and to send all the supporting evidence as well to be on the safe side.

Anyone else have this experience?

I got a checklist today for the same thing. But the only thing is my adjusted and gross incomes are the same number. So I dunno why they sent me checklist saying my income did not correspond.

We did, but I failed to realize I had filed a 1040 and not the 1040ez, so I need to use total income as I had originally thought and not adjusted gross income. Too much double-checking, I need to chill out! shocked.gif

I just got police clearance this morning smile.png

DS261 is available but have to wait to fill till I'm home tonight to have printer.

It seems things are going well so far.

but we are still waiting for my husband's tax transcript and joint sponser's I864.

I sometimes feel horrible to ask my husband and his family to prepare all the document ready.

(and it takes time to get them from his family since we live in Japan)

Hopefully it works out ok...

You don't need a printer for the DS-261, it's an online form, there is absolutely nothing to print out.

I dont know if we can call them to check if they received case and all other things we would like to ask...as such possibility was not mentioned at noa2... or if they will send mail with instructions to beneficiary or an email ..

thanks

Read posts 1 and 2. It's okay to call! Everyone does. If you want to wait the full 30 days before calling initially you can. It's up to you. If you wait for the NVC to initiate contact however, it takes months because they will postal mail things vs email. If you call, you can hand over email addresses and then everything from them will be via email.

The NVC is a very active stage. It's not like the USCIS where you just wait. You call them and get your case numbers, you pay bills, you do online forms, you send packages, and you call to find out if everything is complete and when you have an interview date. The NVC takes about 2 weeks to respond to emails vs calling which sometimes you wait on hold for 30 mins or so.
