Hope this hasn't been asked but it doesn't look like I (sponsor) will have to submit my birth certificate in any of the packages is this right? Looks like the AOS just needs tax documents and passport copies and the IV needs only the beneficiaries birth certificate and info? Asking because I only have some kind of copy of my birth certificate and the original is nowhere to be found, I do have my husband original though. Also do the passport copies need to be certified or notarised? I get confused with what the difference is.

Hi, my husband (petitioner) didn't include his birth cert in the AOS package, only his tax documents.. And on my IV package, I just put the scanned copy of the biographic page of my passport and the original/authenticated copy of my birth cert. That's all, so far we don't have any problem. Please update your timeline.

Saylin, pls enlighten me with this.im having a problem with regards to the beneficiary name.its bcoz my husband unintentionally wrote my maiden name on the form I-130. But all my documents like the passport and everything else were all on my married name..would it affect our case? We tried to call nvc but since our case is not yet on their system, they cant give us any response abt it for now.. Im so worried

Posted

Doesn't matter, it'll show up in other names used as you fill out NVC forms (aka the ds-260.) As long as your passport is in your married name the visa and green card will be as well.

Hey guys! Please I need some help.

1. On I-864, Part 6 question 13 & 14. Do I check both boxes, or just 14? I plan to include the three most recent years of tax transcripts. Confusing me because 13 says "most recent year only" and 14 says "second and third most recent years". Neither says all three years!
2. I live in Costa Rica with my husband. So for Part 6 question 5, do I put what I'm currently making in Costa Rica (converted into dollars)? And since I do live with my husband, do I list him as contributor in question 6? (When I filed my taxes last year I did NOT list his income)
3. Will I need to include the employment letter and pay stubs? I know my current income will not count towards the poverty guidelines, but do they still want to see I'm "employable"?
4. My husband got his police record a few months back (because I thought USCIS wouldn't take 10 months...) and it expires after 30 days. It doesn't say so on the actual police record, I had to look it up at the US embassy website. Do I need to include an updated police record with the IV package? Or should we just get one for the interview at the embassy?

You said: "That's good to know. But still, doesn't it look fishy if you have all different addresses on each thing you fill out? I guess I'm just a Nervous Nelly. I haven't even changed my name yet because we filed ASAP after the wedding and I was afraid the name would mess up the background check somehow."

PS folks: If you're gonna reply, make sure it's not in the quote you're quoting :P

To answer: it doesn't matter what addresses are used. The only important one is on the DS-260 as that's where the green card is sent. In most cases though, yes, people use the same address, but for some people, that's not possible due to certain circumstances.

No, the petitioner's birth certificate isn't needed in the AOS package. If you have a joint sponsor though, they'll need to include a copy of US citizenship/residency.

And nope, the photocopy of the passport bio page doesn't need to be certified or notarized. A regular photocopy suffices.

Saylin

I have my old passport which expired few years back. Do i need to bring the old passport also during the interview? i would be happy if i dont have to. I tried for tourist visa once which was denied and an application received date is mentioned in the old passport.

I would suggest bringing it just in case. I did (as I had an old L2 visa stamped in it). But, I was never asked to show it.

It doesn't say so on the actual police record, I had to look it up at the US embassy website. Do I need to include an updated police record with the IV package? Or should we just get one for the interview at the embassy?

1. I submitted all three years, and checked both boxes. No issues! That's what I suggest!

2. Is that income going to continue once you're back in the US though? Cause the question is only pertaining to income that you'll be using to qualify, which has to continue in your case if you're living abroad. The same applies to your spouse. They can only be included if the income will continue when they immigrate and you're using that income to qualify.

3. If you're not using your current income to qualify, then no, no need for an employment letter or pay stubs.

4. If there's no expiration date on the PCC, you can try sending it to NVC to see if they will accept it. But, they may know what you know - that it expires after 30 days. So, it might be a good idea to get a new one. And then possibly another one for the interview. How long does it take to receive a PCC there?

Hello All,

We got our NVC case number assigned on Friday Feb 7th 2014. But the person said he cannot enter the email addresses yet, I need to call Monday.

I have a few questions, I know once they have our email addresses the beneficiary and the petitioner will receive emails for Agent and AOS information.

It is Feb 2014, and with my AOS do I need to send my W-2 s from 2013? I have worked in 2 companies last year. And I have got the W-2 from one but not from other yet. Of course I have not filled for this years taxes but I have W-2 from 2012 and tax returns up till 2013.

Is it ok to send the W2 from 2012 only and 3 years of tax returns only with my pay stubs and employment letter?

The other question is in regards to Police certificate, do I need to wait for the request for police certificate from NVC or I can go ahead and get one done from my spouse ? My spouse mentioned they need a letter stating that what do you need the certificate for

Any suggestion or advice will be greatly appreciated

My husband and I are working with an immigration lawyer and she is basically handling all the paper work and paying the bills etc. We got our NOA2 on Dec 24th and are obviously anxious to get our numbers. We checked with her a couple of days back and apparently, instead of calling NVC she sent an email to request our number, which she says, is a lot faster than calling them. To me that sounds a little off, since everyone here just keeps calling them every day. Should we tell her to call NVC or does anyone here know that emails are regularly responded to? I just don't wanna delay our process unnecessarily…

Well I basically called them everyday if not every other day week after NOA2 was approved (Dec 26th). Every time I called NVC, they mentioned they received it in the building on Jan 8th 2014, and it will take 20 business days to enter in the system. Finally this friday, when I called I was told they have it in the system and assigned a case number. Calling NVC, means a 30 mins wait.

Nope, don't worry. They understand that not everyone has the vaccines; that's what the medical is for. And like I said, whether you say yes or no, it doesn't matter. As long as you have/get all the required vaccines at the medical, then you're golden :)

Is it possible to complete medical before submitting the DS form online,

Or is the interview letter mandatory for medical scheduling?
