Hi Saylin,

Yes, I'm aware of that I need both original/certified copy & photocopy.

But based on what you were saying, only photocopy is needed for passport/birth certificate from joint sponsor.

Am I understanding right?

I just wanna make sure...

What I was referring to was for the civil documents in the IV package.

For the AOS package, yes, the proof of the joint sponsor's US citizenship/residency can be photocopies.

Does anyone knows what is the criteria to expedite at NVC stage? does financial loss applies as it does with the USCIS?

It's mostly the same criteria as USCIS, but they simply forward the request to the embassy/consulate. NVC doesn't make the final decision.

If you think you meet the criteria, then shoot an email to NVC (use the specific expedite email listed in post 1). Include any evidence you have to prove such criteria. You'll hear back anywhere from within a few business days to a week or two (it varies by consulate/embassy).

when sending in W7 for ITIN, tax returns are mailed with it. Do we send just federal with it, or does state go with it to?? If not then I have to wait to get ITIN to file state taxes. Tax system is weird in the states compared to ours, I over looked this part as I did not realize they had to be sent to different places, in Canada we just file and send to same address. Getting in a little ####### from the hubby on this, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is an excellent question... that I don't know the answer to Pretty much the only good thing about South Dakota: no state tax returns.

I tried looking in the W7 instructions, to no avail :/ I would say yes, include the state tax returns, but you may want to call up the IRS tomorrow and inquire. And like the NVC operators, make sure you ask a few different operators, in case their answers vary.

Go the first post. Find the link to the March interview thread. That's where all the case completes go. You'll likely find others waiting for interview dates from India as well.

There are a multitude of ways to call using your computer for free. Google is your friend I called the IRS as well as NVC from Canada using my computer and never paid a cent.
