I know I've seen some posts about taxes, but it was a while ago and I don't feel like searching back through. I called H&R Block (for advice on taxes), and they said I need to file single, then "ammend my return" after my wife gets her green card and gets here. But I just wanted to see if any other people have done that or whether they filed married instead, etc. We got married in the Philippines, not in America, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Jan 24, 2014 - Received checklist via email (said reviewed DS-260 and instructed me to send in civil documents). I called NVC to verify I can ignore checklist and they said yes, to ignore it.
Jan 27, 2014 - Called NVC and was told that our case is complete and that we're just waiting for an interview appointment date.
Jan 29, 2014- Called NVC and was told that our interview was scheduled for March 10, 2014. Also registered for St Luke medical exam online.
Jan 30, 2014 - Received P4 letter in email.
US Embassy (Manila) / Medical (St. Luke's)
- called embassy every day after the interview, during AP status and after visa status changed to "Issued," asking about status update and visa delivery timeframe
Feb 4-5, 2014 - Wife went to medical exam (took two days), results mailed to US Embassy in Manila.
Feb 7, 2014, Package sent from NVC to US Embassy in Manila (according to NVC phone operator).
Feb 10, 2014 - CEAC website updated case as "In Transit."
Feb 11, 2014 - DHL website shows case as delivered to US Embassy in Manila.
Feb 12, 2014 - Called US Embassy in Manila and interview rescheduled for Feb 25th.
Feb 25, 2014 - "Approved," but we have to submit CENOMAR then wait for visa after it's processed, so I guess technically it's in Administrative Processing (AP).
Mar 17, 2014 - CEAC website, visa status changed to "Issued." Now we wait for pickup/delivery.
Mar 21, 2014 - Juvy picked up visa from 2GO location, got CFO stamp, and I booked her ticket.
Mar 22, 2014 - Juvy left Manila, through Japan and Detroit, and finally onto Houston!! :-)
THE REST OF MY LIFE CAN NOW OFFICIALLY BEGIN!!!

But I just wanted to see if any other people have done that or whether they filed married instead, etc. We got married in the Philippines, not in America, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

You can't file as single if you're married. You can get a tax ID number for your wife if you want to file married jointly, or you can file married separately without her needing an SSN or ITIN. For the latter option you won't be able to file online, you'll need to print your return and put "NRA" for non-resident alien in the spouse's SSN field, then mail to the IRS.

It doesn't matter where you were married, you're married.

You can apply for an individual taxpayer ID number and file as married, file as married filing seperate and amend the return after she gets an SSN, or if you qualify, file as HOH (Head of Household),

I sent my I-864 documents on jan 17 and the IV documents on jan 24th. How did you find out if your documents were scanned and put in system?? Did you call them and if so what did you ask them? I want to call but unsure what to ask?? Should I ask for an update on my case? Have my documents been excepted? I am afraid they will just tell me to wait again.

You didn't do electronic filing?

If you snail mailed them in, it will take a while, but I'd still call.

I sent my I-864 documents on jan 17 and the IV documents on jan 24th. How did you find out if your documents were scanned and put in system?? Did you call them and if so what did you ask them? it just mean it's showing up in their system that they received it. i noticed the day a packet is delivered to them (and that you can track through the postal service you sent ur packages) next day they have it in the system. Some people used the word "scanned" it doesn't really mean that the whole packet/ docs were scanned that day.

you can call and ask for updates on case and they'll tell you the date they received the packet . that is the day they put it in system to say "received". if you recently sent the docs , yes they will tell you to allow certain amount of time, but that didn't stop me from calling every day and ask for updates.

You should get an email auto response any time you email things to NVC. It will say:

Dear Sir/Madam:

The National Visa Center (NVC) received your correspondence.

We received electronic documentation for this case. Please allow up to 20 business days from the day the email was sent for the scanned attachments to be uploaded to the electronic case file and reviewed.

IMPORTANT:

Do not let more than one year pass without contacting the NVC concerning this visa petition. If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact (by telephone, mail, or e-mail) with the NVC, all submitted fees and documents expire. If this occurs, the fees must be paid again and documents must be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration process.

As this case is processing electronically, all forms and documents must be sent via email as scanned attachments to NVCElectronic@state.gov . Sending physical documents to the NVC will delay the processing of your case.

If you haven't gotten an email saying they have received your information, then call them and tell them you haven't received a response. If you have gotten the auto email and nothing else, that's a good sign, it means you haven't had any checklists.

It took about a month to get the email about a interview after all the documents were sent in.

I filed Head of Household ,as i did Qualify..and I used H & R Block too!

Hi!

I'm trying to call the NVC tp get the case # and INN, but it never connects (I'm using skype and it says it's busy). Is this normal? Is there a better time to call?
