My petitons (I-130 and I-129F) were approved on 26-Feb-2014.

An update from USCIS said both petitions were shipped to NVC for visa processing.

I called NVC today and the operator told me that usually USCIS don't send files when they say they do, but rather it takes them couple of weeks to send them.

So, which one should I believe? NVC operator or USCIS update?

Believe NVC. USCIS might have updated online but unfortunately that doesn't mean your file has actually left the building. To get an exact date of when your file was shipped to NVC you'll have to call USCIS.

Check out Saylin's NVC spreadsheet and look at NSC approvals date to case received by NVC date to gauge an approx time for the file transfer.

Also getting an UPDATED CURRENT police report - so that is within the 6 month expiration date.. (in preparation)

I did have a quick question - I only HAVE ONE ORIGINAL of all the BIrth Certificates and Marriage licence.. will the NVC want originals? wll the embassy also want origianals when I do an interview or will the NVC forward the originals onto them-- I don't care if I have any EXTRa ones at this time and I don't expect to get origianls back. but is ONE enough??

Make sure your police certificate is the "Antecedentes Policial" from the DNIC.

Yes, all requested civil documents have to be originals except a copy for the beneficiary passport to be submitted to NVC with a copy attach. NVC will forward everything that has been submitted to your case to the embassy, its best to carry originals and a copy just in case they misplace any documents.

Saylin i need your help again, I filled out all the 864's and now the only thing I am worried about is the total annual income question for my cosponsors papers. Now my mom and dad file together, mom gets her social security and dad gets his pension with ss and rental income from his property now please tell me if I am correct here, would his total annual income be the gross minus my moms social security retirement?

HI Saylin

I just complete DS261 form and I got the confirmation email. But after that when I tried to log in in the form portal its showing me the error message and saying my case is the process of termination .Why its showing me that ?I am so confused please help me.

Please read post 2 about error messages.

Oh wow.. have a safe trip and yes we feel special smile.png

Thanks! Landed safe and sound late last night :)

Hi saylin,

I sent my aos package 2 weeks ago and was wondering if now is a good time to change my job or should I stay with my current employer?

Thanks!

If you want to change jobs, that's fine, but you'll need to bring an updated I-864 to the interview. And with the new job, you better be making the same or more amount of money.

Hi Saylin

Could you pls add me to your spreadsheet

received at NVC Feb 20th

thanks in advance

Added!

I know this has been asked a LOT, but I have to file married for 2013, if I was indeed married, correct? My accountant doesn't want to do it because he says I'll get back so much less, and he is all "well file single and then amend it" but I'm pretty sure I've read thats the wrong way to to do things, and I don't want to get caught.

I also read that its possible to amend my tax return once he gets here and gets a SSN? But I can amend 2013 when he didn't make any $ in the US?

Yes, if you were married, you have to file as married. And yes, once he gets here and has a SSN, you can amend your taxes to MFJ and get a higher tax refund.

Hi saylin I completed ds 261 today n haven't received ny confirmation email ???! Is it necessary to receive email about confirmation because I dint receive yet... Pls sumone let me know

Unless they've changed things, you don't get a confirmation email. There's just a confirmation page at the very end of the DS-261.

Good Morning everyone!

I have a question I am hoping you might be able to help me with. We received a checklist and returned it and the additional docs to the NVC on Feb 7, I just called and it was scanned in on Feb 12th. At this point I am guessing (if all goes well) we will have case complete in the next few weeks sometime. My question is, based on a case complete sometime beginning/middle of March is there any idea as to when we could expect to have our interview in Montreal? My sister is due to have her baby at the end of March and I want to plan a trip to see her but obviously need to be careful that the interview and trip do not overlap. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance. smile.png

For Montreal, the interview is typically 1.5-2 months from case complete date.

One question that I have faded into oblivion a few pages back and I could use some advice/clarification:

I thought if the joint sponsor has a spouse who filed jointly, they HAD to provide an I864a.

Did I really get this wrong and get my joint sponsor's husband involved/ gathering documentation, unnecessarily??ohmy.png

If he does not have to do an I864a, just please confirm that the joint sponsor (his wife) uses the W2 somehow when doing her I864 to demonstrate what part is her own income.

No, the spouse of a joint sponsor doesn't HAVE to contribute their income. Only if they want to. But yes, if the spouse doesn't file an I-864A, then the joint sponsor has to send in their W2s to show their individual income.

NVC requires originals or certified copies. You'll get them back after an approved interview.
