The three letter code at the beginning of the case number signifies what embassy/consulate you're going through. If you move to another country though, yes, you can change the case number. You'll just have to contact NVC and it might take a week or two for them to change it.

Thank you so much.

My husband is moving from Indonesia and I am moving from China, we are going to Australia at the end of March, but we don't have an Australia address before we settle in there, probably NVC is going to assign the nutcase number before we get the new address, they will mail something to us once the case number is assigned? Then neither of us will get that.

If you give over both email addresses as soon as the case number is assigned, then all correspondence from them will be sent by email. Once you actually have an Australian address, just call up NVC ASAP and tell them. That'll start the process to switch the case number (if one has already been assigned).

Oh, thought you meant in reference to proof of re-establishing!

And I'm not sure, sorry. Sounds like an employment letter would be the only option really.

No problem, I am just grateful for the advice.

I've asked my company to prepare a letter. In the meantime, I won't take any chances, so I've asked my father to be a joint sponsor.

In this case, I'm filling out the i-864 as "1a. I am the petitioner" and he is filling it out as "1d. I am the only joint sponsor"?

Probably for the best, as I'm not sure foreign income could be included (even if it will turn into American income).

And yes, that's how you'd mark it yes.gif

Just called NVC and was informed they were taking 20 business days to assign case numbers, but now that has changed to 30 business days as of today. And the rep said I need to exclude the 4 "snow days" they have had out of my calculation - and said that is about 7 weeks from the date they received the case from USCIS.

This is just so frustrating. Every step is now taking longer and longer!

I think CEAC website is useless to check the status. I think you should call them few times a week to keep up with your case. Only thing they show me is at NVC even my case is completed. I think visa tracker kicks in after file leaves NVC.

That is correct. Just need to keep checking the CEAC website.

Hi everybody,

Just making sure Im on the right track. Im logging on the CEAC for the first time trying to fill out the DS-261 and get my invoice for AOS. I am just getting a unable to process further with my NVC #. I am assuming this is normal and need to wait a few more days as it seems to take a week to log on for DS261. Is this correct? sorry guys just thinking outloud.

I think CEAC website is useless to check the status. I think you should call them few times a week to keep up with your case. Only thing they show me is at NVC even my case is completed. I think visa tracker kicks in after file leaves NVC.

My reply was to the above post.
