Hi,

I got married last week and now I have to begin the AOS process. I was thinking about hiring a lawyer but turns out they are expensive. So I was wondering if you can do the whole process on your own?

Totally do it by yourself. If you don't have any legal issues or a complicated situation, this site has all the infos you need.

Read the guides. They are spot on.

Good luck!

It's very doable on your own. There are guidelines here in VJ.

Are you a k1 /fiance visa holder who got married? Here is the guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The cost of filing AOS is expensive, so don't even waste more money on a lawyer. Just do it yourself.

Definitely, most members here did the AOS process without a lawyer or Agency, Just gathered all the documents needed and don't forget to make a photocopy of each of them as your duplicate.

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him,

I am filling out the form I-131, but do not know the travel dates yet? What do I put down for Part 3 : Intended departure date? Also, do I need to write a purpose of the trip?

Leave them blank and then hand-write Unknown for the date and length after printing out the form. No explanation/reason required when filing for AP with a pending I-485.
