Hi Everybody!

This forum have been very helpful for me for the past almost 3 years.

I came to the US on a fiance visa and been here almost 2 and a half years. Now finally have the time and the money to go back to my home country and visit my family but there is something that worries me and I don know what to do.

On my green card I have my married last name and on my passport - my maiden name. I am in the process of booking a ticket and don't know what name I should book it under and would I need any papers to proof that it is the same person?

My home country is part of the European Union so the traveling around Europe isn't very complicated for me. My main concern is what should I do when I return to the US?

Thanks in advance for the responses!

Book the ticket under the name on your passport. Make sure you have a copy of your marriage certificate on you to provide as evidence that you have changed your name when you check in for your flight back to the US.

Good luck!

I personally would prefer to have name changed on the passport to the Current and legal name so never even have to clarify and get stressed for no reason. You never know the mood of IO at any POE which can ruin all your enjoyments. My two cents !

I agree with you Billyk and I will be able to change my name on the passport when I get home. But as far as I know I cant change the name on the ticket and I prefer to buy a round trip ticket because it is a lot cheaper. It is going to cost me around a 1000$ as it is...

I really hope that the marriage license would work... Plus they have my finger prints etc...

I would really love if somebody who's been in similar situation would replay ClockWatch2.gif

We are in a similar situation. My wife (passport - maiden name, green card - married name) booked her ticket back to EU under her married name. We wanted to update the passport but it's a complicated process to get it changed before the flight.

There will be more problems if the flight ticket and passport have different names.

It depends on your situation but have you tried to get a temporary passport? It can be processed in a few days but you'll have to send your marriage certificate to your home country as proof that you are actually married.

Getting a new passport before my trip is not an option for me... They take forever and the nearest consulate is like 900 miles away. I tried to call customs and border protection but all I got was a recorded message that says that US residents enter the country with a green card.

The lady from the company that I'm buying my tickets from said that they've had cases like this before and I should book the ticket on the name in my passport and have my marriage license on me.

Another thing is that I was thinking about getting a new passport with my married name on it while I'm in my home country so I don't have to go through all that trouble again but then I will have different names on my passport and ID and a green card.

So confusing and frustrating! I wish I haven't changed my name when I got married cray5ol.gif
