I have no idea why pretending to be stupid would be good for your career. I would like to know.

Yeah, I get that. And it's stupid.

Paying people to come up with a groovy strategy to change the frame of the conversation, so that your workers don't notice that you are firing them or giving them less benefits for the same work is stupid.

It's these sort of things that makes business a huge scam, making more money for the CEOs at the expense of the workers. It's like no one knows how to run the business any more, but they know how to put a spin on their ineptitude so no one notices for a while. Until the company is bankrupt.
