The latest trend is the video resume.

Oh god, make me vomit.

So much "packaging" to cover up lack of substance and manners. It's like pretending to be too busy to look important.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Yeah, I think the Skype interview has been around longer though. The video resume is brand new. I have a bunch of career coaching pages on my various social network feeds and this is the buzz right now. Will it pick up? Honestly, I hope not. I am uncomfortable enough with the fact that LinkedIn profiles need mugshots now.

It's like "branding" for people. Thanks, consumerism.

That's what my employer tells me all the time. "You are responsible for your brand".

I doubt it. Its too consuming to watch a video. Harder to multitask.

Yeah. When I look at resumes, I eyeball. Maybe 10 seconds, max, before I decide to keep reading or go to the next one. How the heck do I do that on a video resume?

I'm going to hire a marketing firm for a job search. First I'll introduce my self as "New G" Then, when everyone hates me, I'll bring back "Classic G"

The idea that we are our own individual brands is something I was first told back in 2004 in an "Accepting Change" seminar (right before they outsourced me to a company with shitty benefits).

The business world is stupid.

I disagree completely. They're not stupid. They are masters of misdirection.

If the business world seems stupid, remember they're not, and then ask yourself why they're behaving the way they do. It's all about self-interest.

So they are good at lying and faking? And the system rewards liars and fakers? That's stupid.

I have no idea why pretending to be stupid would be good for your career. I would like to know.
