Saying hello and requesting info on Chinese Notarized birth certificate

Hello

My name is Hai Wei. I was born in China, am a Canadian citizen and currently a resident in the USA and applying for a green card (as a spousal application as my husband works in the US and already has a green card himself).

As part of the green card application process USCIS are requesting my birth certificate, however I don't have one.

My sister is in China, will she be able to get a Notarized birth certificate on my behalf? If so is the NBC a standard form that will be issued, or do I need to write it myself and get it notarized by a relevant person in China, if so how to write it, what should it say?

I've tried searching for answers to these questions but not been able to find definitive answers.

OP, if you and your sister are both listed on the same household registration (户口), then she will be able to obtain a Notarial Birth Certificate from the notary office of jurisdiction.

She will need to go with the family book asn Ryan H stated to your home of record (where you are currently registered) and request it there. I beleive that is the process. My finacce lives in Shanghai, but is registered in An Hui. She had to go to JingDe City there to get here birth certificate. Make sure your sister gets multiple copies so you don't have to do this again in the future. We call them White Books and they will have both Chinese and English translations with the local government raised seal.

Is the Notarial Birth Certificate some standard document that the notary office creates and issues? Or is it a document I need to write and just get the notary office to stamp and authorize?

Unfortunately though I think the household registration document has been lost.

The Notarial Birth Certificate is not a document you create. It is a certified document that appears in Chinese, and translated English that is bound it a white cover booklet. You need to obtain this from your Hukou from an authorized Notarial agency. It must be certified with red stamps.

ya, remember - is two things.

1. birth certificate, in chinese (useless for USCIS) and

2. notarial chinese translation document, known as a 'white book', and that's the thing normally used for Guangzhou and USCIS. is combo english/chinese, about 6 to 8 pages with the cover.

My sister should have as she still lives in China, but I no longer have one after emigrating to Canada (prior to moving to the US). But I have the identity card number in an old passport visa if the number on its own is any use.

Even if the booklet is lost, there should be a record of your family at the hukou office in your family's home jurisdiction. Hopefully, your sister's ID should be enough to get your birth certificate without having to go through the long hassle of getting a replacement hukou book first.
