First Obama gets the prize for basically winning an election, and now this. What a joke that prize has become.

Edward Snowden spent the last year revealing some of the government's most tightly held secrets, kicking off a massive debate about the proper role of America's intelligence services. Now, a pair of Norwegian politicians have nominated the NSA leaker for a Nobel Peace Prize.

In their nomination letter, Baard Vegar Solhjell and Snorre Valen, who hail from the Socialist Left party, said Snowden's revelations "contributed to a more stable and peaceful world order."

Nominations — which are generally secret but sometimes announced by those submitting the paperwork — must be filed by Feb. 1. Snowden likely has dozens of competitors, so there's no guarantee he'll get anywhere. Still, it'd be ironic if Snowden and Obama each wound up winning the same honor just a handful of years apart.

That is not true. Obama won the nobel peace price for, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples".

I will say that I don't think he should have won it because as a practical matter I don't think being the head of the military garners anyone a Nobel Peace prize irregardless of who that person is. Seems counter intuitive to have him among the ranks of Dr. King, Bishop TuTu, Dalai Lama & Mother Theresa for the simple fact that we need him to give the order to execute military options in war.

If Arafat won one, anyone is game~ just saying

Arafat won one in conjunction with two other people, Shimon Perez and Yitzhak Rabin, for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East. Yitzhak Rabin was the last best hope for peace in the Middle East and I believe that had he not been assassinated by some Right wing zealot there was a very good chance the Palestinians would have a homeland and would be living in peace with their neighbors....seems like most world leaders who seek peace end up finding themselves on the wrong side of a bullet.

All things considered I think that that award was well deserved for the three of them and their efforts.

He was nominated 12 days after he took the oath of office. How much international diplomacy can one do in 12 days?

Well nomination and winning is not the same. It's not my opinion I copy/pasted the exact reason given by the Nobel board. I'm not in disagreement with you I was shocked that he won it actually - if I recall I think he was too and felt like he didn't deserve it.

I'm skipping church on Sunday and having a Super Bowl party. In about 2 weeks, everyone will know my true identity when I win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Wow you're like a communist. You quote a fox news source (I use the term news loosely) without giving credit because clearly you wouldn't want people to read the editors note to what you posted.

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/10/09/tommy-seno-obama-nobel-prize-win/

Here is the full link to what you posted, and here is the editors note before the mindless drivel that comes after it which says EXACTLY what I said that there is a time period between nominations and who actually wins.

Editor's Note: Although President Obama had only been in office for 12 days before the nominations for this year's Nobel Peace prize closed the entire process actually takes a full year. According to the official Nobel Prize Web siteexternal-link.png invitation letters are sent out in September. Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sends out thousands of letters inviting a qualified and select number of people to submit their nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The deadline to submit nominations is February 1. -- Two hundred five names were submitted for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, 33 of which are organizations. A short list of nominees is prepared in February and March. The short list is subject to adviser review from March until August. At the beginning of October, the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal. The names of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are then announced."

Anyway I'll give you a B for effort in Propaganda 101.
