My case was filed in February 2014. My I-360 was approved in about 60 days. I have read all of the posts here and I know I have been very lucky with this first step because most people have been waiting a lot longer than that.

I have seen a lot of discussion about including a psychological evaluation. The abuse I suffered was mental and verbal. I could not afford to see a psychiatrist at the time I filed due to the financial mess my ex-husband left me in and the attorneys fees I had to pay. My attorney cautioned me that I could get an rfe for this. However, I was approved without one. I'm not saying that they are not needed but I just wanted to put my case facts out there.

I also filed EAD at the same time and when we didn't hear anything in 90 days my attorney sent an email to the VAWA unit. It was approved the next day and I received an email yesterday that it has been sent in the mail.

I am hoping the I-485 goes through quickly and smoothly but am preparing myself for a long wait as I can't imagine I would be so lucky twice. The receipt number for my I-485 isn't registering on the USCIS website so I have to wait for information in the mail.

hannaB Congratulations. When the alien has a police report and restraining order there is NO NEED to get a psychological evaluation. I would say that 95% of the cases of mental abuse the victims do not have a restraining order or police report ,therefore it's extremely important to submit a psychological evaluation .Your ex husband sent you a letter apologizing, it means the abuser confessed all abuse inflicted upon you, what it does not happen often at all.I am not talking about him apologizing, I am talking about the abuser writing down a letter.

We have here in the VJ Vawa filers that spent 30/60days in shelters, and despite that got RFE to submit psychological evaluation to prove mental abuse.Your case is particular because you have the abuser confession, police report and restraining order, then your case was good since the beginning.

That's a very good to know info sandra as I had emails and text messages from my ex wife confessing that she was extremely sorry for hitting me every time we started an argument as well as a police report for sending me mails and text messages threatening to kill me ...

People ask me often where to find free therapy/counseling.I am posting here some web sites where you can find free or low cost therapy. Please make sure you get a psychological evaluation, not just a letter from the counselor saying you are doing therapy.I can't even remember how many people contacted because they submitted the case along with a counselor letter and they got RFE to prove mental abuse, make sure it's an evaluation performed by a psychologist or psychiatrist.

If you need to take medication to control depression, anxiety etc...the Wall mart sells several medications for $4.00 if it's for 30 days, or $10.00 if you have to take for 3 months, check it out.

Omg I am so happy for you! Congrats! It's time to open a new page of your life!

I receiced a text/e-mail today my EAD was approved (the previous was expired on February). It took them almost 3 months to approve it.

P.S. Vawa filed on January 2013, receipt February 8, 2013. 16 months waiting.......

Sandra,

I have a question please? I have an expired state license from ND. Now I'm in IN. State of IN wouldn't issue an ID for me unless I get a status.

I was wondering If I could use the I360 approval to get a state ID or a driver's license. Or should I wait till my EAD approved?

BEN B you should not travel abroad all, first because you had the AOS interview, but you don't have a green card yet, and leaving without advance parole your AOS will be deemed abandoned! and you won't be able to reenter. To get an Advance parole it will take 3/4 months.

Second despite travelling with AP the USCIS ombudsman advises not to travel abroad if you stayed without status in the US, more than 180 days, because you can be banned to reenter 3/10 years,it depends how long you were here without status

Third if they approve your GC when you are travelling how are you going to return to the US without the GC? because once your GC is issued your AP is not valid anymore.
