Unless something has changed, you can take a cellphone inside, but it cannot be turned on.

There seems to be a lack of clarity and even disagreement regarding what the I-485 interview based on approved I-360 is supposed to be about. Some people say that the interviewing officer can ask questions about the marriage and the abuse, other say that they are not allowed to. For example, I found this answer from a lawyer on Avvo (see below). Some say that the interviewer can ask about the marriage but not about the abuse. Can anyone please guide me to a ruling or any official document/guidelines which clearly states what the rules for the interview are. Is the interviewer allowed to ask questions about the marriage and/or abuse? Only about the marriage but not about the abuse? Or is the interviewer allowed to only ask questions about admissibility? I can't afford a lawyer to come with me to the interview. However, I want to know what the rules are so that I can be prepared. Are there any official guidelines from USCIS?

This is from Avvo, written by an immigration lawyer in New York City.

"I strongly recommend that you not go to the interview on your own. During the face-to-face interview, the immigration officer is not suppose to ask questions about the marriage or the abuse you suffered. The rule is that the officer should focus only on the adjustment application and whether or not you are inadmissible.

However, many local officers, who are ignorant about domestic violence, pay no attention to the rule and use the interview as an opportunity to attack the approved I-360 VAWA self-petition. A good number of them are disrespectful and believe that abused immigrants are committing fraud. They literally re-victimize domestic violence survivors by making them relive the abuse they suffered at the hands of their spouses.

I have done many VAWAs and have stopped many officers from abusing my clients. Again, hire an attorney to review your file, go over the case with you, discuss your options, and accompany you to the interview. I strongly recommend you not go alone. Show up with a lawyer at the interview and you will not have to put up with an abusive immigration officer."

Piper the Uscis guidelines, specified in several Uscis memorandums clearly state the adjudicators cannot ask about the abuse, but they can ask about the marriage.Despite 90 % of the officers don't ask anything about the marriage.THe lawyer that answer the question was too dramatic in order to convince people to hire a lawyer ,including himself .No need to attend the interview with a lawyer if you don't have a history of restraining order granted against you or any arrest.

Hi guys, I think I screwed up already. Do you need to provide your birth certificate when you file your initial application?

Also, how soon do you get e-mail or text alert if you provided form G-1145? My package was delivered to Vermont on the 18th, last week. So far, nothing from them...

Things are not going well right now.

Anyone? Almost 10 days since they received my package according to USPS tracking, but still nothing from them. No emails, no texts...
