Milania86, my understanding is that the rules vary from state to state. I currently live in Arkansas. When I first moved here in 2013 I researched this issue and found that I was permitted to drive on my UK license for 6 months. During that 6 months I was also pulled over by the police. At that time I had applied for my provisional license in Arkansas but had to wait 30 days to take the practical test. The police officer accused me of driving on a suspended USA license which wasn't true. I told him I was driving on a UK license and was within the 6 month period where I was permitted by Arkansas law to do so. He told me he didn't know anything about those rules and he gave me a court date and told me to explain it to the Judge. I was very upset. I went to the local revenue office who issues licenses and they confirmed the police officer was wrong and that I should contact the chief of police of the town where I was stopped. I did that and after he looked into it he said there had been a computer error and everything got dropped.

My advice would be to call the dmv of your town and ask them how long you can drive on your UK license. The officer may be correct if you have been residing in Florida for some time and you did not get a Florida license. Driving on your UK license is only a short term option.

  • When must a driver get a Florida driver license?

You must get a Florida license within 30 days of becoming a resident. You are considered a resident of Florida if you:

1. Enroll your children in public school, or

2. Register to vote, or

3. File for a homestead exemption, or

4. Accept employment, or

5. Reside in Florida for more than six consecutive months.

Current law requires customers to present proof of legal name, lawful presence, Social Security Number and two forms of residential address. If your name has ever been changed by marriage, divorce or court order, then you must present these documents. You will have to provide proof of any and all name changes. To find out more regarding these documents, please visit GatherGoGet.

If you are not able to provide the necessary documents, you may be issued a 60-day temporary permit, providing your out-of-state license is valid or has been expired for 60 days or less. This will permit you to drive for 60 days while you are obtaining the documents.

Edited to add - because you have not had a US licence at all yet, you are probably going to have to take both the written and the practical driving test. So you need to be prepared for that.

Hey everyone,

i think the interview went well. The Immigration Officer didn't approve me on the spot...

or give me any paperwork or nothing..

he just asked me if i was still married

when i got divorce

when i entered the county..

and then about my DUI : i explained what happened with that.

Then he asked why im still in removal proceedings and why they haven't canceled it since i got my VAWA approved and was put on deffered action ...

i told him my lawyer filed a motion to terminate the proceedings... but ICE said theres nothing in the system to terminate .. and they cant do that until i have adjusted status..

sooo then i told him my next report date is in November and he said " well hopefully you wont have to go and have your residence by then" SO i took it like a good thing...

then i gave him the court dispositions and the related police reports, and then my certificate of DUI school and the comm. hours i did. and he said

"they have to review it"

then he simply said okay thats all.

he was really nice, we talked about the weather and he asked about my city and where i grew up and just little things, i think he was new. im not sure.

i asked him if i was going to get notice and he said yes and he shook my hand told me to have a good day and i walked out .

so now i guess its time for more waiting.

Im just glad its over,

he never asked for my papers for my divorce where they dont have in my file.. so idk..

i hope everyone is well! then you Sandra for your help! and your advice! it really helped alot.

Per Matter of Yerrabelly and Arrabally, the three and ten year bars no longer apply to a pending adjustment applicant who departs and re-enters on Advance Parole.

Yeah I read that too Hypnos, BIA reviewed the matter in 2012. But my lawyer had a case where one of her client was denied entry back in the USA using AP just a few month ago. I don't know the exact details but it had to do with being out of status and/or unlawful presence >180 days. If you can point me out to more information about the topic, it would be greatly appreciated.

Dont worry czzr you will be approved I too im waiting the officer who interviewed me said she may need to request fingerprints for my son since he just turned 14 and I will be approved once everything checks out. I know my son has never been arrested or in any sort of trouble with the law so I know that will go well once done and I am also married to an LPR and would still have to wait on a visa number before they issue my Green Card so im just waiting and waiting lol sometimes I feel like my entire life is about waiting for something or the other lol.

But hang in there you will be approved!!!!

Many people on this forum lived very similar situations and already shared it on the site, just go back and read the threads: Vawa, Vawa 2, Vawa 3, Vawa 4, and this one is Vawa 5. There are hundreds of pages for you to read and you will see that many people lived mental and physical abuse.

If your Lawyer filed your Vawa properly and proved Bonafide marriage (including proof that you lived with your abuser), Proof of Physical or Mental abuse and Proof of good moral character then you shouldn't have a problem getting your Vawa petition approved.

Since you sent your Vawa application already, the only advice I can give to you, is to stay away from your abuser and wait for the decision. The Vermont service center(the office that takes care of Vawa petitions) have been fairly quick with recent applications. My Vawa application was approved in 3 months.

when did you send your Vawa application in?

congrats mamaandtwokids !!

Hello guys.

Good afternoon.

I just checked my visa status on the uscis site and it says request for further evidence.

I actually haven't seen what they want more from me but I am so nervous. I am panicking right now. I don't think I have more evidence to show them :(:(:(

Im so scared. What if they deny my VAWA? oh my god..im so scared. I checked my mail and the actual paperwork is not there yet. It says they mailed it on the 24th

How long do I have to respond to the RFE?

How long does it take for them to respond?

What if I cant possibly give them anymore than what they are asking?

Is this the end of the road for me?

Im so crying right now....
