There is no time limit for them to make a decision on an I-485, but if it reaches what is considered an "unreasonable" amount of time (~12 months+) you can file a writ of Mandamus in federal court to compel USCIS to make a decision.

This is almost always not necessary, and sometimes even the threat of one will make them act, as USCIS does not like being called into federal court over something as (comparatively) trivial as this.

Help help help!!!!!! Like I said USCIS issued me an EAD card and my birth year was incorrect. My lawyer didn't want to make an amend to USCIS andreplace the card right away because she thought it may take a while. So I had a job offer. I went to Social Security office to get a SSN. I was denied on the spot. Then I went to see my employer and gave him my old ssocial security number which was expired. Will i go to federal prison if they found out??????

Social security numbers do not expire; once issued to you they are issued for life. Do you mean you gave them someone else's social security number and claimed it was your own? If so, that was an incredibly bad idea on your part.

You need to get your EAD corrected first of all, because you will fail SAVE checks until that is done (this is why you were denied on the spot for a social security card and number - although this plays into the question I asked above).

Absolutely not, it's my own social security number but the problem is this social security number of mine is only valid with DHS that was issued with my visa when i departed to the states. My DHS expired long time ago.

What's a SAVE check?

Thank you for the info

Just checked processing times for EAD in VSC. For filing based on pending I-485 it has a date June 23, 2014. I filed mine for renewal on September 11, 2014. Does that mean that as of now they are reviewing applications that were filed before June 23? My current EAD expires at the end of this year. This is crazy!
