An Arizona heart surgeon's claim that a diet of unprocessed foods - not necessarily low-fat foods - can prevent and even reverse heart disease has ignited the Internet.

Dr. Dwight Lundell has dished the dirt on 'what really causes heart disease' and he admits prescribing cholesterol-lowering medications, and a low-fat, high-simple carbohydrate diet for two-and-a-half decades was misguided.

'These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible,' he writes in an essay, that has been posted on some 250,000 Facebook pages since it appeared on a website called Tuned Body in December.

Yes. Fresh food should develop mold and go off after time. If it doesn't, it's not 'fresh' food ;)

Yeah I know. But that ones like magic.

Like mcd's fries. At some point you just have to applaud the skill of the guys that figured out how to keep organic material from decaying.

Long been a fan of the high protein, low carb diet. It keeps the energy level up and the weight down. My weight, cholesterol levels and blood pressure were never as good and stable as they are now, than when I was on a regular carb based diet.

Obviously the makers of statins don't have him on the payroll lol.

Some American food worries me... the super shiny waxed apples and milk that seems to last forever, not to mention the GM stuff.

It's definitely an achievement, just not one I personally am willing to swallow.
