My issue with the mental checks is its way too easy for govt to deny rights to an entire demographic of people they dont like. We've seen this throughought history, especially with gun rights. Ask Dr. King about his license to carry and the subjectiveness of govt decision makers.

I'm surprised anyone from any group thats ever been discriminated against suppoelrts measures allowing the government to do so again. Whags really crazy is you folks will throw around the racist charges in a second on something like voting rights but pretend its not even there when it comes to YOUR gun rights.

I would ask Dr. King, but alas, he's dead. And he carried a gun because folks were actually out to kill him in a time when killing a black man wasn't frowned upon. And yet, even though he carried a gun, someone else with a gun killed him.

There are people in this world that shouldn't have access to weapons. Period. Folks who think having a gun solves any problem. Folks who start fights then use the gun when they get whooped. Folks like James Holmes, Adam Lanza, Aaron Alexis, the VA tech shooter, the guy who argued in the movie theater.

King understood the risks involved in being an outspoken civil rights leader, living in Jim Crow era Alabama, and took measures to protect himself, his family and others around him.

King was a gun owner. In fact, he had a few guns–one visitor to the King family home described King’s supply of weapons as an “armory.”

I doubt he would carry illegally, but if he did, given the facts that he had people out to kill him, it would make sense.

In states that have "may issue" laws this is still happening. "Black people dont need th right to defend themselves in public." In "shall issue" states, it cannot happen because the state must issue a permit to everyone that applies.

Im not sure how you "common sense" folks still havent connected the dots between subjective licensing and outright discrimination. Using mental health as the current scapegoat to hide racist policies is something I thought lefties would see right through. It tells me someone wasn't paying attention. I know this because right afterwards, we all had to have our clearances re-checked.

No one is saying more laws, enforce the laws on the books. Or revamp them. It's better than letting everyone be armed and shoot each other.

A West Virginia man shot and killed his new neighbor and the man's brother without warning as the two inspected their land.

The shooter told police he thought his alleged victims were breaking into a building he mistakenly thought he owned, and police are baffled as to why he chose such a drastic measure to preserve something of no value to him.

The Cabell County Sheriff's Department charged Rodney Bruce Black, 62, of Barboursville, with two counts of first degree murder after he killed Garrick Hopkins, 60, of Milton and his brother, Carl Hopkins Jr., 61, of Oak Hill, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sherriff Tom McComas told the Daily News on Monday.

Rights will be rationed as the government determines "makes sense". Great idea. But King was IN FACT denied a permit in a state with "may issue" status, a situation that other gun owners have worked to eliminate because of the racial discrimination that has traditionally gone along with it. Indiana was court ordered to drop its "may issue" system and replace it with "shall issue" based on proven racial discrimnation. Alabama was court ordered to "interpret" it's may issue systen as a "shall issue" and cease denying permits from qualified applicants based on....you guessed it...race! Though Alabama still has a "may issue" system it functions as a "shall issue" and permits are issued to any person qualifying.

Fortunately what you think doesn't matter.

It is already illegal under federal law for persons determined to be mentally ill to own/use/purchase guns. Teddy B. does not get to determine who is mentally ill.

What the man did was already illegal. Hence the arrest. What more do you want? He will charged, tried and when convicted he will be punished.

You do not bring up Chicago because concealed carry has already resulted in a 30% reduction in crime in the first year. It no longer fits your agenda, it fits mine. 92 LESS young black men were killed in 2013 than in 2012 and that is a GOOD THING.

I'll keep you posted on the additional lives saved throughout this year. As more people are issued CC permits, crime will be reduced further.

Chicago has less killings now that they have concealed carry. Chicago HAD taken away guns, giving them back reduced crime. Taking them away again would be stupid.
