I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but the article doesn't claim that this ammunition actually "disappeared", as in "alakazam it's gone", it's claiming that the people who possess this ammunition are not abiding by the new law and coming forward to register it.

You do realize that ammunition is totally different from a magazine. A magazine holds the ammunition where it is then chambered into the closed end of the barrel, where it is struck by the firing pin and then discharged from the open end of the barrel.

Welcome! Yes, I have never purchased a loaded magazine from anyone. It weakens the springs in the magazine that push the ammunition into the receiver if you store them long-term loaded.

I am always amazed at how many people opposed to gun ownership do not even have a clue about the basic operation and construction of firearms in general.

How many people died under the old health system? I'm talking about people who couldn't get the care that they needed under their insurance or who committed suicide after declaring bankruptcy.

I don't get why the mechanics of firearm components are always brought up in relation to stories about gun related deaths. I think somewhere, deep down these people must realise that they are defending the indefensible so instead of talking about the carnage that has resulted at some nutjobs hands we need to be told about why a clip is different to a magazine. As if it matters.

This is the reason you will never be able to have a honest debate about gun control. Gun owners would rather talk about anything else but guns killing people. Ban cars, band hands and feet, ban knives. If both could stop with the insults and actually see this from each other's perspective, lives might be saved.

Personally, if someone is discussing/voting/legislating my Constitutional rights as an American citizen, I prefer them to at least have a basic understanding of the topic. We always hear about what devastation guns caused to families and victims. The Democratic agenda is responsible for more family devastation than guns can ever account for. Policies and government destroy families, guns are a tool which just like the pen can be used for good and bad! To protect or destroy depending on the bearer of the tool!
