Are the USCIS people on the phone nice?

Wow! Why are they there to help if they can't even help? What stuff CAN they help with?

The people who answer the phone are subcontractors who read from a screen. They can tell you what their screen says, like that you got a RFE on X date. They cannot help you fill out forms.

The US Gov has provided detailed form instructions for each form. If you want more help, you can hire someone. If the gov gave each person detailed help then these form cost would be astronomically higher.

Agreed with above with the exception of the part where I don't believe the letter from an employer is a necessary addition if you include W2's proving the income for this past year...however it couldn't hurt to include if it is on official letterhead. That would have been more important prior to W2's becoming available. Now that they are available - that is a more solid piece of evidence.

Current proof of employment is important. Mr. petitioner could have quit his job since then. They don;t care about last year's earning, they care about earnings right now. I think adding a W2 without a tax return only confuses the issue.

USCIS used to say on the I-864 page that proof of current employment is strictly required, and while they have since removed it, I think in the majority of cases it is very important. The only exception would be for someone who has had the same job for 20 years or something and has established a convincing pattern.

I can see that. Although current pay stubs will do the same thing. And I'm sure helpful - I just wouldn't fret about it if you are unable to get one. Some employers either don't provide them or are just lazy.

If you can prove it with the W2 and pay stubs...I wouldn't stress about the extra letter that's all.

Yes, either paystubs or an employment letter will suffice for proof of current employment.

USCIS is not there on the phone to answer procedural questions on how to file.

I had a load of difficulty with the people at uscis. When we *finally* got transferred to the nvc, I appreciated them way much more. So nice, so patient and caring, so thorough. uscis can suck my nuts for all I care.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

got hang up by tier 2 because he didnt know what he was saying about my husband's case and told my husband our case was at service center . We explain to him that last time we call and the tier 2 officer told us our case was transfer to our local office. this guy was a waste of time and hang up when i ask him how come you look like you dont even know what you are doing.. and than we call back and a stupid tier 1 answer and i ask her to transfer me to a second level customer service which is a tier 2 and she said there is no tier 2 officer only i can help you.i told her i just talked with one earlier and got hang up on and still she is insisting there is no tier 2 .. dont need to call them they will just make your mood bad lol ...

I have to phone them tomorrow because I'm confused about my RFE and my husband tried to phone them but they said they had to talk to me (I'm the alien) and he was at work. I get nervous on phones when I'm talking to people I don't know, so if anybody has had any experience with them, are they nice people?

you need an ISO. The first human that answers the phone, a CSR, can only see on their computer what you can see in the status portal.

Now, are ISOs nice? Mostly, not. Sure, you'll get someone who is nice, but it's rare. They are harried, mostly, so all of their countenance bleeds from that descriptor.

I guess a better concept for you - is - can YOU be engaging enough that an ISO will stop talking for a moment, and actually listen to what you need to tell them?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Start from scratch and make a good I-864 packet this time.

Summation!

Seriously! I have to guess the buckets are confusing, current annual income vs prior years tax data, when current still equals 2013 and prior is 2012, 2011, and 2010.

I have called USCIS and NVC many times, and usually find them polite but firm. That is, if you are asking for information you can find on their website, they will brush you off fairly quickly, but if you are asking technical questions about how to complete a form or about specific documents they require, they are usually helpful.

Why are tax transcripts necessary when on the i-134 instructions it does not mention anything about tax transcripts nor w-2??

It's an I -864 RFE. Instructions:

You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent years.

If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s) rather than a photocopy.
