Leaving U.S. with a J1 but coming back on a B2

Hi there,

I am currently a J-1 student who's 1 year US exchange program ended on the 31st of December 2013 (with the 30 day waiver period I have until 30th January 2014). I am leaving the U.S. on the 29th January 2014 to travel to Mexico for 10 days. I am coming back to the U.S. on the 8th February 2014 on a B1/B2 visa to travel for another month.

My question is, will there be any issues coming back to the U.S. on the 8th February 2014 with my B1/B2? I have never used my B1/B2 and have a plane ticket showing I will be going back to my home country (Australia) on 5th March 2014. My international officers at my U.S university said this is fine but I wanted to get a second opinion.
