Revelling in the death of another, regardless of what he/she has done, chills me to the bone.

EXACTLY.

My Iraqi Neighbor and good friend is definately revelling in this news since Sadam's cronies have executed about a fourth of his family - he knows what happend there more than most. Me, Im not reveling in it, Just think it is "fitting" for him since he has done his share of executions.

I guess  = revelling

I just thought it was a dancing emoticon. It's not like I'm throwing a party...now that would be some major revelling. OMG, I hope that's not interpreted as levity.

Great.

I'm not expecting you to agree with me. Just stating my opinion, which greatly differs to yours. Still think it is wrong to revel in the death of another.

I luv you Jenn. :D

I luv you too Jenn. :D

haha...I post the little smiley dude dancing with no words. Charles posts a smiley with the comment of good and Gupt praises Jesus at the news. Somehow the smiley dude dancing is an extreme celebration of Saddam's pending death, while the actual comments themselves are merely glossed over.

ALL HAIL THE POWER OF THE DANCING EMOTICON!

The punishment is fitting sure, given the evidence against him, but if the trial was inadequate (and if the Iraqi judicial system lack the desire and the resources to investigate and document the various atrocities) it means that the minions who carried out the executions may well get off scot free.

I'm sure your mate will be well pleased with that ;)

I don't agree the punishment is fitting. Setting aside my total opposition to any murder, especially state sponsored murder, I think a man of Saddam's ego would be better punished in a million other ways that would be humiliating and humbling to him. Now he's just dead and that's it. It's not like he's ever going to perpetrate his vilishness ever again, why not make him work the rest of his life?

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Personally I'm not too fussed about what happens to him as long as it is the result of a fair and impartial trial.

I think the Iraqis are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this (although as Saddam was tried in Iraq and not in the Hague its unlikely that they have too much of a choice in the matter) - simply because the crimes of the regime do not end with Saddam Hussein.

Lets look at this new Iraq:

They are planning to execute their former leader after a politically motivated show trial (according to independent observers).

The Headquarters of the Iraqi police in Basra was raided by British troops because sectarian Death Squads were operating out of it.

Not an encouraging start is it...?

Yes, perhaps we should keep him in jail as sort of a symbol. We can print t-shirts that say "Free Saddam". We can let him continue to soak up government funds by rotting in jail despite his obvious atrocities. Then we should give him more and more luxuries as the years pass because he has served his time peacefully.

Why would you want to do all that? I'll pretend you aren't playing straw man here. But if you are, how the fuc! did you turn my "make him work the rest of his life" into giving him luxuries?
