I thought it was because you are pronouncing "aitch" which starts with a vowel - in this particular case. Just like you would say "an M". I do agree with your hotel rule, of course, just didn't think it applied in this particular instance.

Look at me being the grammar Nazi! I might have a new career. Unless I'm incorrect, of course.

Silent h rule, traditionally an hotel was pronounced without the h as being most awkward but yeah, it is a bit archaic, I am archaic smile.png As no one would say 'haitch' when pronouncing the letter h the silent h rule applies - unless there are people who say haitch wink.png then they can properly say a haitch oh aye smile.png

All we really need to know is that AJ, a non native English speaker, is right  (actually, he might be a native English speaker, but he is a product of the Raj, does any more need to be said?)

If you say so. Personally, I am not convinced, you know too much about the world outside of PA and have a fake British accent ;)

For the same reason you should say an Hotel. if a word or in this case acronym starts with an H (when the h is silent as in an H) it's treated the same as if it were a vowel.

Quite incorrect, actually.

A Hotel, a home

An Herb, an hour

An is used for silent H's.

What were you saying about uneducated minority again?

I wonder how many VJ'ers would join his brigade?

Gary, Danno, and Lost for sure. I'll wager Lost is trying to find a way to make it to this dude right now...
