We've actually posted data that shows even when a black person is more qualified and has no criminal record, a white felon has an equal if not better chance to get hired:

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/09/study-black-man-and-white-felon-same-chances-for-hire/

The results of these studies were startling. Among those with no criminal record, white applicants were more than twice as likely to receive a callback relative to equally qualified black applicants. Even more troubling, whites with a felony conviction fared just as well, if not better, than a black applicant with a clean background.

Racial disparities have been documented in many contexts, but here, comparing the two job applicants side by side, we are confronted with a troubling reality: Being black in America today is just about the same as having a felony conviction in terms of one’s chances of finding a job.

The young black men posing as job applicants in this study were bright college kids, models of discipline and hard work; and yet, even in this best case scenario, these applicants were routinely overlooked simply on the basis of the color of their skin. The results of this study suggest that black men must work at least twice as hard as equally qualified whites simply to overcome the stigma of their skin color.

Thats an interesting study though it is very light on facts and numbers and the sort of detail one might like to know about the research. I suppose we could dig it up as this was part of her doctrinal work.

There is no doubt in my mind that when it comes to small businesses, it is more difficult for a Black to land a job. There are a number of reasons for that, the two biggest being plain ole bias and the other is "life experience" often people have a bad experience concerning Blacks (or whoever) and they apply that in decisions they make.

Another factor is people most often gravitate towards people they can relate to. An Old white guy might warm up to a white kid who looks more like his grandson that a Black guy with dreds?

We see the same thing when you go to an black owned business, the vast majority of workers are Black as well. IN fact this is common among most small businesses owned by a Asian or hispanics.

The white guy with the police record (in the research)... I wish they had told us what the crime was that so many employers over looked it?

Marv it would appear, the author of that study is fixated on the subject of Blacks and their issues, does that not bother you?

I don't know and what does that have to do with forming a BlackMac Lovers group in 2014?

Who the HEck said anything about blackmac? I was pointing out that black frats probably didn't exist in the era you allude to because there weren't enough people to populate one.

-Most Black fraternities are new, not old carry-overs.

-Most people in these fraternities are not old enough to have experienced the need for a race based organization.

Granted the site you mentioned may be open to all.... but there are plenty of sites and orgs "Directed at" certain races, (which I have no problem with)

However I am not so sure you would welcome the same exclusive groups, sites, for all races.

TO your first points, I agree, we must always judge individuals on their own merits.

The researcher was a Women, no doubt from some Kenndy'ish exclusive town in the North East.

She should do more than associate with Blacks at the college level she should rub shoulders as I have with all type of Black (as well as other folks).

For her, everything is an academic study, theories hammered out during discussions in the faculty lounge or while smoking one in the dorms.

That has it's value but it;'s very limiting.

Once again, you make these statements and you have no factual basis to them. It's like you're mentally starring in your own Al Josten minstrel. In this post you readily admit that people gravitate towards people that they can relate to. Yet in another post you seem to say, "well i don't know why people want to join an organization that is themed with just their group". So which is it?

First of all when you are talking about small owned businesses, are you talking about a business defined by the government as being a small business or are you talking about family owned stores like a little Asian grocery market on some corner. Yeah in that example chances are you will usually find other family members or friends working there who are Asian. In the US a small business is defined by under 500 employees. My very first engineering job was in a minority, Black to be specific, owned company. The CEO and the CIO were Black. Aside from me I think there were maybe 3 other Blacks working in the company, most of the employees there were White. When you use language like the "vast majority" I would love to see some factual evidence to back up your claims. This was a multi-million dollar earning firm with maybe a little over 100 employees so they did very well.

I think your statements tell more about who you are as a person than anything else. Anyway most Black people I know are well-to-do :) Professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers, and so on. Theres more baby mommas and welfare queens in your community than mine so why don't you focus your energies on them and not worry about matters you know nothing about.

So minorities want to be equal while getting special treatment? WIll never happen.

You must be a good dance because I love how you twisted my words.

I know I can't do this every day I haven't gotten any work done all day. I'm gonna end up being a Danno self fulfilled statistic of being another black man unemployed. He'll be like 72% +1 of all Blackies are unemployed.

Please don't become one of Danno's stats. He would really love this.

Give me a break. In the last 3 IT jobs I've had in Texas, blacks were represented just fine. Probably more so in relation to their percentage of the population. IDK, maybe Texas is ahead of other states whe it comes to racial harmony.

You mean black as in a dark skinned Indian from India? Because that is all I see in IT jobs here in Texas. It's so crazy half the kids in college don't want to do IT because they won't get the job.

That modeling jab is recent. Do I have to post about having a black name can hurt you in the job field? Jamal, Deshawn, or Darius can be certain death on an application.

Heck yea. My brother and his wife had an argument over this. She wanted to name their little boy Keithefer, Jake or Stuart and my brother said no. She was upset because she said if they gave him a black name he would never make it through the door for an interview.

No, actually what is painfully obvious is your reading comprehension...... but never mind, thats what I am here for.... to make the cloudy clear.

You confused "fraternal' to a limited scope.

This term can apply to any organization where like minded people join together.

Such as; a Black nurses organization or a Black Law association.

Lets just look at a few more shall we?

I did not confuse anything nor is my scope limited. The United Negro College Fund founded in 1944. So whats your point? I mean just because you pasted a bunch of organizations does not mean squat to defend your original statements that most of these organizations were founded after what?? After slavery? After Jim Crow? like since you're the knowing seeing eye of racial harmony, you tell me what year we reached a racial harmonious utopia. What about the ADL, are they still needed?

Most "themed" organizations, and I use that term to include religious, cultural, racial, whatever exist for networking opportunities. Some groups, I'm not saying no names...rich White dudes,,,,,have a history of excluding anyone from their groups who do not fit into their mold. Even today a lot of times to be successful in big business it is not what you know but who you know. Networking is the one way that those 1%ers have kept most of the wealth in this country. They didn't even work for it in most cases but inheritance. They promote their own and even if you are White and come from a different class you will not be accepted in their ranks. Now if a young Black engineer coming out of college can't break into those ranks well maybe they are more welcomed with other Black engineers or professionals who will be a mentor and help him or her succeed. Why do you have a problem with that? How does that affect YOU. It doesn't at all.....your anti-stance is based in pure bigotry and ignorance.

Even beyond that, you seem to want to discount or marginalize diversity. Diversity is what makes America great.
